The standard bar sometimes 1/2 teams is never amazing, it's consistency that gets you out this league.

I don't know. I just don't for one minute think it came totally out of the blue, as some are assuming from the tweet, without some prior discussion with Shota ,/ the club.

True I must admit I found Hudds tweet a bit strange he must have had some kind of heads up.

A possible explanation is he knew his time was done, but he didn't know the club was going to announce it via a post game interview. So not good, but not as bad as first seemed (if this version were correct).

The club didn't announce it. Shota mentioned it in his interview but it was his usual sort of wandering sentence style, he didn't explicitly say Tom is being released, but it was fairly clear that's what he was getting at. Then Burnsy tweeted something like "Shota says Tom has played his last game" which is sort of what he said but not explicitly, but everyone has taken the Burnsy tweet as a club announcement. All a bit messy.

For me, we need to give Tom another year.

Not only because he's by far the best passer of the ball in our team, but because he's the best passer of a football in the Championship.

In that 20 mins or so he for sure showed exactly one of the key things we have been missing and desperately need if we are to progress - a midfielder(s) who can make incisive forward passes.

You can't be serious. I'm not disputing his passing ability, it's a thing of beauty. But there's a reason he's hasn't been getting games the last 3 seasons, he's just too slow and you can't carry that in the Championship.

I think he's not Shota's type of player for whatever reason, but back in the autumn McCann played him for a 3-4 game spell and it all looked good. He got injured but until then he was keeping Smallwood out of the team. By the time he was fit again Honeyman was back and Smallwood was playing well so there wasn't room for him to get back in. That said, I think if GM was still here Tom would probably have played more and might be staying another year.

I understand that clearly Shota doesn't fancy him so it's obviously best that he goes at this point, but I think people are really harsh on him when talking about his performances this season.

His legs have gone, unfortunately you can’t make it at this level anymore if you can’t do the dirty side of the game. I reckon he’ll have a nice season at Derby in LG1 and then call it a day.

That moment when Eaves broke free about 50 yards from goal and Huddlestone tried joining him in support was damning. He was clearly sprinting, but at the pace of a Sunday morning jog. It was also a factor in the penalty. If he had quicker feet he'd have probably cleared it before the leg was stuck in the way.

He was a potential pen/red card first time with us but his other skills kept him in the side.

Yet several were saying he should be played as a sweeper not that long ago!!!

I wasn.t calling for him to get a new contract, I get it that his time with us is unfortunately up. I was simply pointing out that he showed in 20 mins what we have lacked for too long. I do though still wonder whether it could have worked / could still work were we to have the right players round him. Guess we'll never now know.

Tom Huddlestone. A player that, a couple or more decades ago, many of us would only ever have dreamed of seeing play in the black & amber.

An absolute joy to watch his ability first hand. Better than sex.
