The 17 year old Blackpool forward has come out as gay.
Everybody has been really supportive so far
This could be the start of quite a few. ‘Bout time too.

As it should be, pleased for that.

It'll soon be forgotten and he can get on with his game.

Why do you even have to "come out". The lads gay, move on. Surely in this day and age it's acceptable.

thinking exactly the same here, why do they need to 'come out' now?

just get on and enjoy your game lad, feck what anyone else might think.

Hopefully it breaks the stigma that people need to hide who they really are.

He gets my support, as would any other athlete in any sport.

Should and hopefully will be a none event soon. But at the moment he is one of the first I can recall so he deserves support!

The more players who feel like they have the support and confidence to ‘come out’ means that in the future players won’t have to make an announcement.

    well done to the lad

100% agree. Sad he has to announce it. Hopefully it becomes less of a talking point soon and he, and others, can just crack on with their lives.

It’s a big thing because nobody has done it in football before. Hopefully more will in the near future and then it will become less important and nobody will care (apart from the Mail of course).

I was thinking similar and the reality is they don't have to.

But i reckon this lad has thought there isn't enough representation in football and he is very young. And only a few years ago it would have been good for him to have a few footballers who were gay to look up to. Maybe off the back of that he has made the decision very early to inspire others who at one stage in their life likely need inspiration or support.

Good luck to the lad, shouldn't be an issue in this day and age.

Might encourage others to follow suit

Nice to see arsenal, man utd, FIFA, uefa, Liverpool and loads of clubs tweeting support.

Seems to be one missing though..........

Didn't think being or admitting your gay was an issue anymore.
    Good luck to the lad.

Pleased it's out there but I wish such a big deal hadn't been made of it. We should be normalising it, not making it feel different.
