If those damn Monks had spent less time making perfume and more time in the classroom, that wouldn't have happened. Thank you Brother for pointing out the error of their ways. 10% off at the perfume counter if you produce a copy of this post at the checkout.
A bit late to the party but never mind! Very difficult to pick out just eight tracks and this wouldn't necessarily be my top eight all time favourites but as they're supposed to have some meaning I'll have a crack. Not sure I can be as open as Mono () about it though. Anyway... 1. Eddie Cochran - Somethin' Else Just reminds me of playing records in my room as a kid. Music was everything to me. Rock'n'Roll and The Beatles were my first loves, I wasn't interested in current chart music that much and especially detested most of it in the 80s! So this could have been any Beatles track as well but I particularly liked Eddie. 2. Johnny Kidd & The Pirates - Jealous Girl My Sister and I had this small portable record player and a random bunch of 45s, this being one. It also coincidentally happens to be my favourite JK track. And let's not forget The Pirates amazing guitar player Mick Green (RIP). Brilliant song. 3. Airport - The Motors We used to spend a lot of time at my Aunt's as kids and this reminds me of the 70s and that time. Fond memories of loved ones no longer with us. 4. Soundgarden - The Day I Tried to Live (London 2012) Their album "Superunknown" is one of my top 5 and it helped me stay sane through a very difficult period. I hammered it in the car and at home. Here's a live version. 5. AudioSlave - What You Are From another great album ("Audioslave"). Played to death whilst working in West Yorkshire and driving all over the place (York, Liverpool etc). A tumultuous time! 6. Stereophonics - Since I Told You It's Over See 5! Another car CD, great album ("You Gotta Go There To Come Back"). Particularly reminds me of struggling trying to find somewhere to live after splitting from the first wife! Visited a lot flats (listening to this album) before getting something suitable. 7. Chris Cornell - Preaching The End Of The World From another of my favourite albums ("Euphoria Morning"). What a voice and songwriter. Missed seeing him gig in Swansea (can't remember where exactly), gutted! 8. AC/DC - Shot Down In Flames From the superb "Highway To Hell". Apart from just being a great track, it reminds me of going out drinking in Swansea in the 90s, when jukeboxes had great music! BONUS: I have fond memories of pub gigs in the 80s at the Coppermans, The Cardiff Arms, The Coach House etc, mostly rock'n'roll, so here's a Chuck Berry staple of the bands...
No.19. Motown Magic. My favourite male group. What a voice Levi Stubbs had. The powers that be at Motown wanted to rename the group ' Levi Stubbs and the Four Tops', but he wanted none of it, insisting the foursome were just that - a foursome. Equal shares for all was his mantra.
It's actually a micro dot. If you, or anyone else, can read it, there's a prize to be won. Here are some clues. . . . That's enough to get you started. Well, I never said it was going to be easy.
no 23 As the country gets more and more swamped with the excesses of the trashy windsor soap opera, here's something that, hopefully, will rekindle your desire to live.
No.24 Some big hitters on the stage for this one, including, Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynne, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, and Andy Fairweather Lowe.
Such a passionate performance of an amazing song : Came across this band in the mid 90's whilst in Canada and they've been with me ever since.
No.25 Disco never died. It's just sleeping. Takes me back to the Discotheque near Port Talbot train station. It used to really jump.
