I suggested that as a possibility a few months ago Technically, having a pacey forward who helps our HG numbers is win/win, especially as they can be flipped for £10m easy if things don't work out
Nick Pope entering the final year of his contract. We should test those waters especially now they've been relegated.
Clement Lenglet is reportedly available for £8m this summer While it does have to be said he wouldn't be the transformative CB signing like Torres or Bastoni would likely be (or Gvardiol could become), knowing a LCB is available for a low risk fee could be useful if negotiations become an arseache
Sport (the Spanish one, not the bus on the moon one) did claim that Conte is interested in Lenglet a few weeks ago, although the usual caveats with Spanish papers apply
With our need for reinforcements we have to bear in mind squad limits. Getting rid of Winks for example does not open a slot for an overseas player. This is where I see us at this stage. Replacing Gollini with Forster makes sense in allowing us to buy overseas players in other positions. As I see it, we have 1 space available (assuming Lo Celso and NDombele do not come back) for overseas players. So if you suggest 3 new faces we need to get rid of 2. I believe Rodon and Davies count as overseas?
It's safe to presume that Bergwijn is leaving this summer, and Ndombele won't be with us come Deadline Day one way or another Also, on top of that, Aurier isn't a factor for our squad...
Good point! Seeing as the list was from an amended list from our last CL playing squad you are lucky Alderweireld wasn't left in.
This morning's transfer rumour grab bag Filip Kostic (Gazzetta dello Sport) Joao Palhinha (Correio da Manha) Milan Skriniar (Gazzetta dello Sport) Gabriel Jesus (The Wail)
Harry Kane in a recent interview - “Antonio is a really good manager and I’m really enjoying working with him,” the striker told FFT. “He just brings a real passion, an energy, a real enthusiasm to training and games, and just makes you want to work. You want to work hard for him, you want to run for him. He’s won everywhere he’s gone, so you respect him a lot, and I’m just enjoying it. I’ve worked with some great managers and he’s another one. I feel like my game’s improving under him. Hopefully it continues. Jimmy was an amazing player for club and country – he scored an incredible amount of goals in a short amount of games, it’s something to try to achieve. I’ve still got a few more to go, but of course it’d be great to be Spurs’ all-time record goalscorer.” He's not sounding like he did last summer. I'm pretty sure that he stays, for at least as long as Conte does.
a slightly different end to the season too. One that doesn’t have his mate as the interim head coach, and a behind the scenes circus that lasted 2 months trying to appoint a new manager. - Which then ended up being Nuno.
In quite possibly the worst example of Jilted Johnism that I've seen in some time, The Times are claiming that Harry Charlie Kane made contact with The Sheikh Mansour Team in February and asked if the option of joining was still open, only to be told there was no chance of that happening as they were focused on Haaland So much "You can't break up with me, I'm dumping you" energy there...
I do think he’s on board now and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a contract towards the end of the summer/early next season, as long as Conte is happy and the club is making the right moves, both ins and outs, in the market. He’s also probably fully aware that his options for a move are almost non-existent for the next couple of years so at the very least he’ll be seeing out his contract. But the mood around Spurs must be highly optimistic now. Obviously a lot depends on Conte’s meeting with Levy and Paratici that is coming up in a few days, but the noises seem to be that Conte will be backed. Night and day from 12 months ago.
Get the loans made permanent as soon as possible, then make a statement signing. The rest should sort itself after that. Will that happen? Of course not!
I’d hope the loans being made permanent will happen almost immediately. With the nations league coming up, other stuff might have to wait until after, aside from free transfers if we’re looking to make any moves there, or players not involved in that competition.
