RIP Vangelis Hardly known beyond 'Chariots of Fire' soundtrack to all but Prog enthusiasts, but a great composer & keyboard player. He was also a member of Aphrodite's Child with Demis Roussos. I saw him in the Heaven & Hell tour concert at the RAH back in '76. Amazing gig.
Blade Runner sound track made the film ,dystopian, gorgeous and eerie all at the same time , an influence on ambient music . A personal favourite of mine was " Conquest of paradise " RIP Vangelis
I posted this fairly recently, as it was used in a car advert: Vangelis and Demis Roussos have both passed now, leaving only their lesser known drummer and guitarist. Loukas Sideras and Silver Koulouris, if anyone's wondering. Both excellent on this song. Can't get more proggy than a double concept album based on The Book of Revelation.
please log in to view this image This little beauty is 45 years old today. Not Wellers finest work by any stretch of the imagination, but a bloody good debut album that captured the spirit of 1977 and set him off on course for what I would describe as his iconic career.
I went to see them in the Red Cow in Hammersmith and the next day picked up a copy , my mate persuaded me to go to the gig with him by describing them as a 3 piece Who and also my car had brakes and his only worked intermittently
