A great “RIP” thread … many good performances but, obviously, Goodfellas was the memorable highlight for a man of 55.

The ascent through naivety and compromised innocence, to criminal assuredness and family/mob-strength, and then the descent to distrust, paranoia and ultimate treachery (a rat: no judgment made on Hill, just street language) was brilliant acting/ direction.

the acting from Ray, coupled with
Scorsese’s Direction and magical music score made this one of my top 5 films of my lifetime (‘67-‘22 so far)

RIP Ray, and thanks, in particular, for Goodfellas

(Schindler & Prisoners are in the 5 ….. but…. another thread)

That must be the first time I have ever seen someone mention Schindler's in their top 5 movies. Cracking film but very very very deep.

I remember watching it in the cinema with the missus when it first came out.
When the final credits went up the whole of the packed cinema just sat in silence for what seemed an eternity.
One of my all time favourite films.

Me too, same reactions in the cinema, plus I had a Trinidadian girlfriend who knew very little about Europe/WW2 - she was stunned by the film and the history… an important movie and very well made

I watched it again last year; it has aged very well (probably the black and white helps there somehow). Fiennes’s performance was out of this world.

I remember a similar experience years ago when I saw Apocalypse Now. Brilliant film but top of mine would be the Godfather.
