Exactly what my agent friend told me. He is pretty close with Rodwell and when we had lunch earlier this year his words were 'I would not be expecting them to spend much money mate, that is not the plan.'

Read into that what you will but I would imagine we will see a fair few free transfers. The £2m for Allayar was probably the biggest fee we will pay this year which is still substantial of course.

My suspicion was along these lines after all the hype in January ended with a very modest sum spent, and the lack of re-signings so far, just the triggering of extra years. The proof will be in the pudding of our summer spend, but will be very interested to see where we land.

I’m personally happy to hear that, don’t have them banking on our financial future but have the ambition we want to see and will translate onto the pitch just in different forms to £5 million players

I think with Acun’s/Tan’s contacts in Turkey he will be able to loan/buy some very good players for not much money, which will improve our quality and move us up the league.

If we only spend on £2m on Allahyar this summer, that's a major OG. You can't be talking about major ambitions but refuse to spend. That's not how football works. I'm not expecting stupid money being spent, but I do expect £6/8m on new players. If you're serious about challenging then you have to and that's still a pretty modest amount.

Obviously if KLP leaves, then we have to be looking at spending £10m+, otherwise fans will start to whinge and I think they'd be completely right to do so. There has to be a clear change from the Allam regime, and selling your best players and not reinvesting is an all to familiar story

If we sell KLP, which is becoming more and more likely, then we really should invest a significant portion of whatever transfer fee we get on incomings. We don’t have to blow it all on one like-for-like replacement either. The likes of Allahyar for £2 million and Gus Hamer signing for Coventry for £1 million shows there’s talent available without spending silly money. If we get around £15 million for KLP, we could very well spread £10 million of that on transfer fees for 4-5 new players.

That would be exactly my thought process too.

Mix those additions in with a few good free transfers and we'll be significantly stronger. I do also think that will help to speed up the rebuild. I don't expect instant success but in the same thought process I don't see the point in keeping players around who can do a job for this season but knowing full well that we won't want them for any longer.

Take Elder, I'd much rather we let him go this summer and bring in a young LB to push Fleming. It doesn't matter if he's not quite ready yet as long as his potential is much higher than Elder. We probably won't get instant success but we could develop him into a very good player over the next 2/3 years and have a player with a high resale value. I just think that's a sensible approach instead of keeping Elder, who I'm pretty sure everyone is certain he's not in our medium/long term plans

I'd assume loans for both, wouldn't you?

Jake’s been with the first team im pretty sure most of last season, Matty is 21 but just had a very good loan. He really impressed me last pre season too as did Jake at Scunny. More so my point was buying a young left back when there is already 2 very talented ones at the club. 3 if you include Brandon who’s still only 22, Daws a perfect mentor for them all

Matty was just in the NL North. He looked good last pre season but he's 21 now. That's not particularly young. His chances of breaking through seem remote.

Leake probably needs a season or 2 out on loan.

The idea would be that you'd bring in a young left back with a higher ceiling than anybody else we've got at the club. If Fleming keeps playing as he did last year, we'll struggle to keep him for longer than 12 months

So cynical - you’ve been a City fan way too long !
My suspicions or fears too LOL
I suppose truth will out, it will come out in the wash , we shouldn’t count our chickens , a KLP in the hand is worth two ( crap) players in the bush

Elder or Fleming are both good enough to cover the other’s absences, not every youth player needs to go out to get “experience.”
Why does everyone assume that all Hull City’s youth players are that great, that lower league clubs want them? Some of those kids will be looked at as future players for lower league clubs, but the better ones will be heading back to their parent clubs.
There’s 44 teams in the top 2 divisions, with them all thinking they have players, lower league clubs will want. Some stand out & then go back & have a decent career, others flop, go back, get released & disappear into football wilderness, their original talent never progressed!

Well considering we had 18 young players out on loan last season, I'd say that it's not an assumption. People will come and watch them and then make a decision, we then decide if we want to loan them, we don't force clubs to take them claiming they're amazing. In the case of players going to local sides, we tend to have some form of connection to the club and they're happy to take them because these lads are wanting to play men's football.

The general consensus at the club is that the U23s league is a bit **** and the lads gain far more experience playing men's football where there's actually a competitive element, the U23s calendar often has gaps too which means some of them go weeks without a game. In terms of development, it's far better to be playing and learning than it is to be having a relative kickabout against Crewe reserves.

I always thought it would be a good idea to enter a reserve team into the Humber Premier League (and just not have them get promoted), but I don't think it's allowed, which is odd because at the same level there are other non-league reserve teams across the country.

EDIT: Just looked at the rules, reserve teams can go no higher than Step 6 (which is the Northern Counties East League Division One - the same one that Beverley Town play in now/Ferriby just got promoted out of), but there doesn't appear to be a rule that states a club from the football league can't have a reserve team in non-league.

I'm pretty sure that will not be the only fee paid but I've seen people getting carried away on social media suggesting we will be in for players valued at 5m+ and that just won't be happening I dont think.

Acun is a very wealthy bloke and not here to make a profit I assume (otherwise he is a nutter) so any KLP money might change that and they may well spend bigger based on getting 10m+ for the sale of him but as it stands I am expecting to see another couple of Turkish loans/free transfers and maybe a couple of smaller fees paid. It's based on what an agent told me so has creditbility but not set in stone of course.

As someone else has said, I would be happy with that approach. Not sure we need to be blowing our beans on big money signings to be in with a shout of getting out of this league. Forest, Luton and Huddersfield have shown it is down to much more than that.

Ok, fair enough, didn’t realise we had that many, I thought it was only about 5 or 6, although I assume some of those loans were just to get rid of wages, like Cannon, possibly some of the kids who didn’t look like they were going to make it, so shipped out to, give them a chance to prove different or to try & get a permanent move.

I didn't include the likes of Cannon who weren't technically U23s.

Of those that went out on loan, only Louis Beckett (not good enough), Sam Deacon (not good enough), Henry Curtis (not good enough) and Rio Dyer (homesick - why he was loaned to Cinderford in Gloucestershire) were not kept on this year.

So yeah generally we get the lads out to play, we can expect the same this year too.

People seemingly forgetting about the academy, some cracking talents in the pipeline who I have no doubt will be knocking on the first team door in the next 2 years. Snelgrove and Jarvis score goals for fun, Jake Leake is physically one of the best players we’ve had come through in years. Hope they get a chance in pre season because I have no doubt they’ll take it.

Hopefully Daws and Van Der Veen the former Dutch youth team coach, will still provide that pathway for them as we have proven over the past 5 seasons we are producing really talented lads more and more.
