Pretty poor racing in the UK and, with Royal Ascot coming up next week, it might have been a nice idea to give the ITV Racing team a weekend off? Very hard to get excited about a listed race and a smattering of handicaps. Columbo and Carry On Camping would have been much more edifying <ok>

P Henderson's only runner at Hexham. Sending this up on a 12 hour 40min, 762 mile round trip. Well over a grand in diesal money. Brian Hughes booked.

You can catch Columbo on 5USA. You will probably have to dust off your old Carry On VHS tapes as they normally only show them wall-to-wall on bank holidays. <laugh>

Today’s York card used to be Timeform Charity Day and the big sprint threw up quite a few decent animals in the past. Cadeaux Genereux and Sheikh Albadou both won it before going on to Group success.

The big sprint handicap revolves around how much improvement Mick Channon’s Ingra Tor has made since winning last time. The handicapper has put him up 9lb but the re-opposing runner-up Harry Three has won since to frank the form. Showtime Mahomes beat Devaste over course and distance 20 days ago and that runner-up has won since beating Gisburn so there are plenty of form lines. Maiden Roach Power was third in a three way photo for that Leicester race and the jockey that day Rob Hornby is on the Channon runner today.

In the Listed race at York, Mandoob is probably the form pick on his good second last time whilst the favourite Kemari returns from a four month break after a disappointing run in Meydan. The problem is that a case can be made for five of the six runners depending on how the race is run and the two potential front runners, Mandoob and Without A Fight could do each other in.

There are already quite a few non runners at Sandown plus there are a couple of hotpots. In the 4:00, the William Haggas runner Golden Voice was just touched off last time at York and will be hard to beat but equally Clive Cox’s Lethal Nymph could be better than his Haydock third stepping up a furlong.

The Sandown 3:25 is a numerically competitive sprint but several of them are out of form. Just Glamorous, Boogie Time, Devil’s Angel and Secret Handsheikh have one place between them in 13 aggregate starts this year, whilst eight year old Delagate This Lord makes his seasonal return. Eight year old Saaheq won this race last year beating Seneca Chief with Phoenix Star fourth. Saaheq never placed again all season and comes in today on a 9lb lower rating while Seneca Chief (unplaced in three starts this term) is only 3lb lower having won a couple of races last summer. Phoenix Star won here next time after being fourth in this race and comes in on a 4lb lower mark but all his best runs since have been on artificial surfaces. So none of those old horses look like the answer. Good Earth has run the last twice over six furlongs at Catterick, winning and finishing second for Tom Eaves, but is now on a 6lb higher mark with a 3lb claimer booked and needs a career best to win. The favourite Lordsbridge Boy was a never nearer second at Windsor last time after being pipped for second at the same track on his reappearance but William Knight’s gelding is another that needs a career best to win off a 2lb higher mark. Five year old WORLD OF WINDHOVER has only raced 12 times and two of his three wins have been at Yarmouth. He was second last in a six furlong handicap at Ascot last time without blinkers on but won over five at Yarmouth with them on reappearance. Today he is reunited with Sylvestre de Sousa, the blinkers are back on and he is 2lb higher than the Yarmouth win, needing a career best identical to Lordsbridge Boy. The downside is the easy ground, the two Yarmouth wins on Good to Firm.

An interesting newcomer catches my eye for a modest e/w punt in the 16:15 at York, a Class-3 Maiden Stakes for 2-year-olds over 6f. The Kodiac colt, Eagle Day, is priced at 12/1 in most places at time of writing. Probably needs more time but I'll be watching his performance closely today. Dan Tudhope takes the ride for the Kevin Ryan yard.

Have a good day folks! :emoticon-0167-beer:

(Think I'll swerve the above film suggestions, not quite my cup of tea, although will admit it would make my afternoon a bit cheaper!)

What a superb ride by Richard Kingscote at Chester on the top weight Outgate. He really is showing everyone that he is a top-class rider. Sir Michael Stoute certainly spotted his talent.

Yes, it is. I had a strong 3/1 bet (in relation to my level of stake, of course, probably ridiculous for others) and he won very easily.
