Long before my time but, my family originally were Graham's from Longtown and centuries back were boarder Reivers? The watch towers are still there. Our great, great grandfather was in boat building and moved to Sunderland at some point for the obvious reasons.
Interesting stuff mate. Our family are Reivers, Scott's, I have the full history going back centuries which was researched by family in Chopwell. Our main tower was Smailholm Tower near Kelso, we go any time we're passing anywhere near.
Very interesting Smug, unfortunately l don't have any great knowledge mainly tip bits. I do know James the 6th of Scotland becoming James the 1st of England, banished over 600 Graham's to Ireland, see below its long winded but other families were also involved https://www.not606.com/attachments/...1/?temp_hash=d7e181d92e9632428dddc9c4b72b4b1b

Karl Robinson, Oxford manager, is such a bellend ... ... he's off again complaining about clubs with bigger budgets and getting his excuses in early. Just f**k off. https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/sport/...binsons-warning-league-one-clubs-big-budgets/
What is absolutely hilarious is that he moans about clubs having big budgets and then goes on to say that Oxford have increased their budget to match them
So this is how democracy works ... ... by an online poll of 61 people A show by comedian Roy Chubby Brown has been cancelled by a council for not being "compatible" with its values. Lancaster City Council said the comic would no longer perform at The Platform in Morecambe on 19 August after "concerns raised by our community". Chief executive Mark Davies said it was a "fair, diverse and inclusive organisation" and Brown's shows were not "compatible with these values". Brown's tour manager Ritchie Hoyle said the decision was "ridiculous". The council's decision followed an online petition, which called for the show to be banned. It stated that Brown was "infamous for his insulting comedy" and parts of his act were "outwardly racist, homophobic and misogynistic". The petition, which has been signed by 61 people, also said putting the show on at the authority-run venue "flies in the face of the city council's equality and diversity policy". https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-62054099.amp
As much as I agree 61 people isn't exactly a large number of people signing the petition. I reckon the council would have cancelled it if one person brought it up to them and highlighted how his comedy to quote them "flies in the face of the city council's equality and diversity policy". They will never risk that soet of thing, he was probably booked by someone way down the chain then when those near the top heard he was there were happy to cancel.
I was once invited to meet Chubby on his return to the B&B he stayed at after the show. He swore once as came in, having a joke with the landlady ( who knew him well ) . He asked for a cup of tea, and then Royston Vasey politely came over , introduced himself to me , and took a genuine interest chatting just about this that and the other. All the drinking swearing and crude remarks came from his backing band- he’s just a normal bloke when not doing his day job
people that want to see chubby and have a laugh should be allowed to see him. those that do not want to see him don't have to. most that complain have never seen the bloke but if 61 people can make the choice for an entire town then we are seriously heading into dark times.
Interesting article about the national team of the Chagos Islands on the BBC today. Must be an incredible feeling representing your homeland at football, no matter how poor the team are. BBC News - Chagos Islands FA: The team representing a lost homeland, 6,000 miles away https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61998551
As @gelders pie said the bloke is polite and decent in real life, I shared a breakfast table with him once. I notice this venue has Steve Parrish, on the bill, who's an absolute knacker in real life. It's a shame some people can't tell the difference between an act and a personality ... ... Chubby's audience know which is which.
Feel for you Gary, been there got the T shirt, I have a regular prescription from the Docs for Laxido, take 2 everyday just to keep the stool monster at bay Sure your GP would be sympathetic if you explained the problem.
