It's all been leading to this, apparently ! Yep the 150th Open Championship and on the Old Course at St Andrews. Conditions meant to be perfect and if the wind drops the old girl could be defenceless apart from the deadly pot bunkers. Wide open contest in my eyes, I've done Scheffler, Spieth, Thomas , Matsuyama and Bezuidenhout. Good luck to all and enjoy, should be spectacular !

The old girl is defensive, they are taking right liberties with her,if the winds dont blow she has no defence

Rounds taking close to 6 hours to complete........ All the low scores have come from the early starters, the afternoon lot haven't got close to matching, maybe they'll get their chance tomorrow when starting times are reversed........ fairways look like digestive biscuits playing very fast, looks like a decent test......

Conditions look benign now but the scoring suggests the early birds had it much better. Strange sort of a day with birdies galore earlier on but much more testing later on. Young hit all 18 greens for the first time on his career ! Marvelous. Rory started well too but a few other big hitters up there too. Scheffler -4 so not too bad my others struggling somewhat although Spieth has missed some glorious opportunities. Woods suffering alot

Theegala the only late starter threatening the top of the leader board, now on -4 and sharing 4th spot playing the 15th

The only open I’ve attended was the 1979 Open at Lytham.

My mate and I drove up on Thursday evening and went in for the Friday and Saturday: the days of 3rd and 4th round in those days.

We walked the course on the Friday - watching ‘stars’ such as Nicklaus, Irwin and Seve, whilst also following relative newcomers like Denis Watson who routinely thanked people for their kind words.

On the Saturday, we sat in one of the stands around the 18th - great view of that Green (and the approach) but we missed the ‘cut and thrust’ of what was happening out on the course.

Apart from seeing Seve win his first Major and seeing ‘in the flesh’ in my opinion, the ‘GOAT’- Jack Nicklaus - my other abiding memory is seeing Mark James sink a huge putt on the 18th (72nd) to secure 4th place.

I've enjoyed dipping in and out today. Rooting for Rory.

I liked the interview with him yesterday when the bloke walking the practice round said to him" come on Podgy you believe you can win this don't you ? " , Harrington chuckled and said I have to give Shane Lowry the credit for this , but he said to me the other day" You actually believe your gonna win a tournament that you haven't even entered " ! Made me chuckle . I honestly don't know why he tinkered with his swing years back when he was almost unbeatable especially on links courses. Still ferociously competitive, and won the Seniors US Open 2 weeks ago.

Set up nicely for last 2 days and scoring should continue to be low as forecast for tomorrow is around 21 degrees with only a moderate breeze and 24 degrees on Sunday again with only a moderate breeze........

What a shot from the bunker from Rory. He's been so consistent this past few days. Come on!

Alot of luck gonna decide this, so many bounces in the lap of the gods. Get a fortunate one and you've got an Eagle putt, get an unfortunate one and your up the face of a pot bunker and looking at a bogey or worse ! Who are the golfing gods gonna smile on the most ?

Smith who couldn't miss yesterday, hardly made a putt today. So hard to follow up a really low round with another one.

Everything seems to be going Rory's way atm, he's swinging beautifully and is getting the nice bounces aswell. How will Hovland and Young cope with things tomorrow ?

Funny how all the LIV players are fading away. Maybe they thought they were still playing a 54 hole tournament:emoticon-0102-bigsm

A few brain farts by Smith and Johnson....... why Smith thought it was a good idea to play a shot on 13 with him stood almost 2 feet below the ball beggars belief...... take your medicine and restrict the damage...... Also Johnson putting off the green at 14 and into a bunker that's an 18 handicapper shot!!!!!!

Love the way that the course is set up, it makes such a change from the target golf the PGA set up week after week.......

Now McIlroy and Hovland are by the road at 17......... makes it interesting......
