One of my claims to fame is fixing his bog when he lived on Marlborough Ave, had footy hooligan books in the bathroom, I think that was in his Columbian marching band phase
i cant believe i have anything to do with a forum where 61% of the people not only like caravan of love but like it enough to want it as the club song. its just not mean enough. or rousing or passionate. its music to wallpaper to or do the gardening. you need something to bring tears to your eyes, get the blood pumping and/or get rowdy. it needs to be dark and menacing, striking fear into the opposition and their fans. raising hairs to the back of the neck kinda thing. this song may have its merits musically but as a powerful statement? it holds about as much passion as a soggy piece of cardboard. away fans will all start laughing at us and no doubt start singing where's your caravan at every available opportunity. some **** wots good with music wants to create summat specially for the purpose. much like tiger tiger burning bright.
Its doesn't have the passion of wet cardboard when it sang at the top of your voice by 300 or so adult voices, which is when I've heard it, and many more at Beautiful South gigs. If you'd have been on the Ferry to Lokeren when it was sung in full voice I don't think you say it was a passionless song. Is 'You'll never walk alone' from a musical 'dark and menacing and striking fear into the opposition' ? Away fans would laugh at us what ever was sung.
you say passion sung by the crowd? when did i say never walk alone? and thats tonally darker than caravan of love. you are letting your fondness of the band colour your judgement. its limp.
if its sang by the whole crowd at full volume it sends a message. i remember going to watch city play notts county away and their kop started singing county... county... and then slowly it got taken up by the whole ground. it was one of the most impressive things i'd heard yet it was from ****y notts county. for years we have suffered at the hands of an evil regime but thankfully have been taken over by someone who seems to care about the club and its fans. a lot of fans will be returning to the fold and its times like these you learn to love again hint hint. ulrika says caravan of love sung by 300 is passionate? wtf? it cant be its like a choir song. its too nice. its chords are happy. its about loving your fellow man? its almost falsetto ffs. TwoWrights i grew up on the terraces trying to strike fear into my fellow man as was the done thing by virtually everyone i hung around with and its hard to shake off the you're gonna get your fooking head kicked in sentiment. if there was a song to be played at city id want something nasty and unsettling uncomfortable rather than granny music. i went to see foo fighters in london and the crowd joined in to best of you and that was very loud. then at the end of the concert on the way out someone started singing it and everyone joined in again . then it would fade away but then waiting for the tube it would start up again. and then on the tube. then in the pubs and even in our hotel. its a simple singalong and there are dozens of videos of the crowd joining in and even taking over the song. 2 mins 26 the crowd sing the bit i was on about but they cut them short.
Easy to learn lyrics, easy to sing, designed to be shouted when drunk. Also, I’m sure many have taken the ferry to Boston.
for a brief time under browny when stoke were our most hated team they made a video of their seasons highlights and it had the following song as the backing music and a lot of the fans wanted this to be played before the game because it was rousing and it had who are you? in it a lot. plus im the enemy. listen to it from 2 mins 50 till the end to see what i mean about rousing as opposed to something that could have been sung by barbara streisand or dana/mary hopkins. (lol anyone remember what the fans used to sing to mary hopkins those where the days?) back to pretender I'm the voice inside your head you refuse to hear I'm the face that you have to face mirrorin' your stare I'm what's left; I'm what's right; I'm the enemy I'm the hand that'll take you down and bring you to your knees So, who are you? Yeah, who are you? Yeah, who are you? Yeah, who are you? mean and nasty.
why do we have to be able to sing to it? the sea shanty dancing in the safe standing areas would be enough for me.
its not a passionate song. its la la music. happy go lucky? nice. bonny. twee? millions of adjectives but not passionate. doesnt matter how many people are singing it, doesnt change the mood of the song. you are too much of a fan to hear anything bad about it. im not saying its a crap song, (even though i think it is and they've ripped it off someone else.) ffs i hate it when people cant see past their own biased view. this is just like trying to reason with my wife.
