Was just going to post this. We can’t afford ‘hand outs for the poor’ or for young people to do creative arts degrees but we can waste money on being stupid horrible ****s https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/en...ince-announcement_uk_62f10fc8e4b09d09a2c5b6d1
I’m all for being compassionate and generous to those in genuine need , but I think it’s about time the charities and those who say let them all come, they’re just here ti better themselves and enrich uk , to prove their point with statistics ( let’s say 2022 ones are still held for processing) but 8000 in 2020 , 28000 in 2021 — how many of them are now working in jobs paying more in tax and ins. than receiving in benefits, how many are paying all their own rent etc.
I wonder why the government wasted such a lot of money on such a stupid proposal, Rwanda must be laughing their heads off ... ... Boris must be the only person, on the planet, to be fooled by an email from Africa offering a fantastic return on a small investment
Yes, but I wonder if the 13016 were sent to Rwanda how many of the 176 would have still attempted it?
Capsizing, drowning and being put in transit camps doesn't seem to deter them tbh ... ... I doubt that being sent to a new life in Rwanda would be a massive deterrent. After all Boris says they'll be given accommodation, food and a new start in life. Doesn't sound too much of a threat tbh.
Yes but they weren’t going for a new life in Rwanda, they were just being taken there to see if they were eligible to stay in Britain, I suspect those that failed were sent back to wherever. I just don’t think they would try to come again and if they told others it might of deterred those from trying as well. Anyway we’ll never know now
Isn't the threat supposed to be the deterrent? We told them that we were sending them to Rwanda and they came anyway. So either they know as well as we do that the Tory government are liars and it would never happen or they thought it might happen and risked it anyway.
The whole idea is idiotic tbh. Where could they send them to, their own country wouldn't accept them and why would anyone else ... ... would we be expected to organise private flights, to various countries at our expense. Perhaps we could fly over the approximate country and kick them out with a parachute and a suitcase
thats not how I see a deterrent working I think you should say you will get your head chopped off if you do that again, when they ignore you chop one of there heads off, then see how many queue up to do it again. That’s a deterrent
There is a lot of ignorance spoken about Refugees, Asylum Seekers and illegal Immigrants (I deliberately put them in that order) Lord Kerr speaking in the House of Lords cuts through the crap and presents three interesting facts. https://www.instagram.com/reel/ChDKNR5Ioxd/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY=&fbclid=IwAR2FvRG9uzmfQtqv_9TG8AprI5TQvlevtCJ77_f-puiWa5LiaIVJDHRyWgo
That's a brilliant post and the comments from Lord Kerr were excellent. There's far too many xenophobic undertones in our immigration discussions in this country. It suits a lot of the rabble right wing tabloids to accuse all immigrants of wanting handouts with the odd question of criminality thrown in there as well. And it suits a lot of people in this country to believe the narrative (or pretend to believe it) because it's convenient. The fact is that 14000 asylum seekers looking for a better life in a country of 70m are not causing the problems in your life, they're not causing poor wages, or housing shortages or anything else.
It doesn’t cover the fact that nearly everyone getting off these boats are young men. So have they left their sisters/ wives/ girlfriends/ children behind to be butchered? Not really the kind of men that should be welcomed into this country.
That's a ****ing awful comment that mind mate, with massively xenophobic undertones. You have no idea what their situation is, how they got here, what kind of background they're from. All negative assumptions - you've used a single fact and interpreted it in a vile way.
Maybe if we had safe corridors of passage and sensible means of applying for asylum online or through our Embassy’s, then the sisters/wives/girlfriends and children would be able to submit an application in safety without travelling across Europe. Instead we’ve paid Rwanda £120,000,000 up front with an agreement to pay the upkeep of any asylum seeker we actually manage to transport there. Add to that the legal costs and the cost of Boeing 737’s and crew sitting on the tarmac at MOD Boscombe Down and our Rwanda Asylum Plan starts to look like an expensive bit of sabre rattling.
Well I previously worked with one kid who watched his dad and older brother macheted to death for being part of government, his mum raped also who he travelled with then he drowned off Italy. He was also male raped in a camp in Italy, shot at so he boarded a train to Calais and was taken to England by an older lad. He got some vocational qualifications started and we helped teach him to make electronic music and use words to help him heal. He had work and really tried at it but had a few bouts of depression and suicide attempts so jobs have been on and off but he’s trying. Lost touch now. You can see why I bite when people disrespect their experiences. He had no choice to travel, came here as a non accompanied child. They are now not accepted because many British people voted for a bunch of privileged soulless absolute ****s who can’t can’t do empathy for a black or brown skinned person or a funny language whatever their experiences. It’s inhuman. Yes there have to be limits I’m not ridiculous but not accepting a share of kids with no families ? Really. That’s why Europe think England can **** off. I agree with them.
That’s fair enough you are entitled to your opinion, I reckon if it was boats landing in their country it would be full of women and children not young British lads.
