I know we discussed this on another thread. But I though this might be of interest. There's a free to use site called raileasy.co.uk. Today I was booking tickets to go to London and it would have cost me £103.00. I went to this site above and saved £31.00 and thats after their commission. What they do is so search all options of travel, so in my case instead of going from Howden to London on one ticket, I have 2. One a day return from Howden to Doncaster and then another return ticket Doncaster to Kings X. No change of train. I'd heard about this somewhere, glad I found it. E tickets direct to your inbox. Just thought you might want to check it out and save some money.
I've got a 26-30 year old one despite being 35. Your date of birth is embedded in your drivers license number so when you put that in just change the number. I suppose it's only really any use if you can realistically pass for the age if asked to show your card (which isn't very often to be fair).
Funnily enough I was looking for prices to Edinburgh train for my daughter so had a glance on there and it is £12 cheaper on there. (Than national rail app which I normally use) Cheers for that
To be honest I like it there more than here, mainly for the weather and the cost of living is much cheaper. Of course, I miss the family and going to watch City, but on balance, I prefer it out there.
Interesting, I have a short list of countries worth exploring for retirement, Vietnam wasn't on it until now.
There's another known as the Cockney Jacko fare splitter. After Argentina beat us in the 1998 World Cup I travelled back on the train with him from St Etienne to Calais, I paid full fare he paid nothing, until he was asked for his ticket. Riot clad and baton wielding police boarded at the next station and made him empty his pockets of cash, he only has a few francs which plod took and then let him carry on the journey. Cheap trip for him as I drove us home from Dover gratis for him.
