McLoughlin is nowhere near as good as Greaves and I’d be very worried if he was to be a starting replacement as the left-sided centre-half.
Exactly he really wants him and as you say that’s why. He has a good season and if they don’t manage promotion he’s going to look really good in that system and a bigger club will come in for him Win win for him
I agree, it would be very difficult and I'm almost certain he would be replaced by someone not from an English league. I think we need to keep him but we also have to be sensible and not just give everyone whatever they want....it's a fine balancing act
I'd rather have Greaves for his ball carrying attributes, but I have no worries over McLoughlin starting. There would also have to be a replacement as we'd be extremely thin numbers wise.
I do. I think he’s a liability at the back and we’d be hamstrung with him on the left-side of a back three. He was quite poor against Bradford and he’s got a mistake in him.
How do you know we aren't offering him it and how do you know Boro would be paying him a lot more? Just because we now have more money, doesn't mean we should be held to ransom by players/agents ( not saying we are btw ) Name me one club in the world that pays all players at the same level/amount. There is always going to be levels within squads.
Didn't you just say the club aren't matching his demands? Who said that all players should be paid the same? I certainly didn't.
Proved he could defend at this level last year. Of course I'd rather Greaves stayed as he has more strings to his bow.
Not to **** on Shota but I think if Wilder was at City, Greaves would’ve signed a month ago. I do think managers play a significant role in whether a player wants to stay or go. Just a hunch, but I don’t think some of the players have as much faith in our manager as our owner does. Sad thing is, we probably could’ve gotten Wilder if the takeover happened sooner.
If what I've been told we are offering him is true then that's why I think it isn't that, but it and I could be wrong. But I can only base my opinion on what I see/are told. If it comes out that it's wrong then I'll hold my hands up and admit it
So you don't know we aren't offering it ( whatever it is ) and you don't know boro will be paying him a lot more..... No we aren't ATM giving in to his demands as you put it, but why should the club just give in to demands from any player? If you went into work for a pay review for example, would you employer just give in to whatever you demand from them?
If he does go, I would say Mccoughlin’s deserves a chance to play in his favoured position. His good form last season was actually in a position he was unfamiliar with. Would need to strength the squad, but I do feel we need some continuity in the first XI. It may be that we lose too much in terms of distribution, but at least give home a chance in his favoured position. By the comments on the MDT, he had a nightmare last night ( or some on here just don’t like him) so fully expect to be shot down.
Possibly is - I'm not too worried about Bratfut. We approached it as a training excercise and them as their cup final. If Greaves does go then it will necessitate further reinforcement in that position, though we do have an existing option so it's not like we'd need to be trying to play Elder or someone there in the meantime, and I'm sure an overseas player without the premiums attached to being young and English would come in and fill the role. Would be a shame though. Hopefully HT2s instincts are correct.
You can’t replace Greaves, and replacing him with some random foreigner is not good. Like I said offer him a fortune, include a release clause if we don’t go up for circa 15 million. Selling KLP and Greaves would be a disaster this window, albeit I agree with the motives. Greaves will be worth more money than KLP I’m sure of it.
If I was the highest performing member of my team and I was thinking of leaving they absolutely would. But you're using the 'any player' trick again when at no point have I said we should be giving every player everything they want, so please stop putting words in my mouth. We should be valuing him as one of the most important members of our squad, because he is. It's why he's now vice captain, because of his standing in the squad. So why shouldn't his compensation reflect that? To use your example, if I became the second in charge at my company, but I was only 22, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be told "Well we think you're very important to this company but because you're only 22 we'll pay you as a 22 year old would be paid".
