He's probably been offered more than Coyle. It's not quite as simple as being 'second in charge' or 'second most senior'. He isn't, he's vice captain - same as Coyle being captain doesn't mean he's worth 30k a week like Seri and Tufan.

Still speculation at the moment but I have a feeling he'll go. IF he goes to Boro, got to conclude either that a) they value him more than we do or b) he thinks he has more chance of reaching the Premier League with Wilder than Arveladze. Or both.
Neither of these conclusions is a happy one. I'm afraid that on current evidence I'd definitely agree with him on point b.

Boro have been knocking on the door of play offs pretty much every season since coming down. Have a much better squad too, was anyone expecting us to leapfrog sides like that in terms of quality in 1 window?

What the **** are you talking about you mad man?

Despite some incomings and outgoings, Coyle, Allahyar, Baxter, Ingram, Elder, Fleming, Macca, Greaves, Cannon, Williams, Wilks and Slater are still here. Oh, and the manager too. So it’s not a massively different team at all.

And I acknowledged that the first game was, in my opinion, an exception to the rule.

We are in transition and I genuinely think Shota will pull it off and have us much improved, given the time. Last season we had a bad habit of folding instead of fighting back. This season we have more quality and stand a better chance, but in the last three games and at the back end of last season there’s seems to be some tentativeness to take more risks and get at the opposition. Maybe we’re doing a Bruce and building from a clean sheet, who knows? Whatever it is, it needs more creativity through the middle, endless crosses are easily dealt with in the Championship, hopefully we can mix it up a bit.

Be nice, Ben. Don’t be an arsehole, it doesn’t suit you.

Who put words in your mouth? I asked you a question, hence why I put a ? After any player...

Who says his compensation isn't reflective of his position in the squad? You seem to make a lot of assumptions without anything to back then up.... And if you think we should just bend over and give in to anything he wants then I'm just glad you aren't in charge of anything to do with the club! Let's just say we do give in to his demands, do we do the same with them next player and the next and the next and so on....where does it stop? Do you want to risk the financial stability of the club long term to keep players? Do you want the club to be held to ransom by players just because we now have money.... You wouldn't accept another club doing it over transfer fees so why should we accept it from a player already at the club?

Just out of interest... What wage would you deem as to much for him to be demanding? What would you class as a fair offer and what would you class as a poor offer?

Be interesting how we get on against cardiff in a months time as they’ve signed 15 players so far.

I haven't been involved in this conversation so apologies for butting in but I think if he was asking for £20k a week it would be too demanding, fair offer £12.5k ish, poor offer £5k-8k ish.

I’d say anywhere between 10-20k would be acceptable for him right now. Add in bonuses for clean sheets, goals, MOM, it all adds up.

Based on what the top earners are rumoured to be on then 15k seems reasonable, but it might not be the remuneration aspect that is the sticking point. For all we know we could be trying to tie him down longer than he's prepared to accept, similar to the KLP standoff a couple of seasons ago.

If you meant “last season we had a tendency to fold like a pack of cards but so far this season, with some added quality to the squad & team, we have seen no indication that this will continue. In fact it appears the problem has, based on performances, been reversed.” I would wholeheartedly agree with you, but that’s not how it read.

So far this season performance have been positive, frustrating at times, but on the whole positive. Last season I’m sure we would have lost both League games had the gone along similar paths. Probably the Cup game too, if you take the “typical City” factor into account,

Decent thread here showing clips where we were let down by the lack of confidence on display by some of the players playing

This came up a while back in discussing how our default position is to keep possession as the main focus and therefore often missing opportunities in good attacking positions.

Pep Guardiola talks about football being like a dance slow, slow, quick, quick, quick. There is a point to possession but recognising opportunities to use the ball quickly to cut through the lines and hurting the opposition.

We look good when we add a bit of speed into our attacks, but it is few and far between - hence the overall impression that we just pass it along the back 3. I think we improved a bit after the break as we removed the safety net of 3 central defenders always available to our midfielders and they had to look forward for options.

Paul Scholes recently talked about the Man Utd midfielders taking possession facing their own goal rather than on the half turn. That’s why Tufan looks most effective - his first touch enables him to pick out positive passes. Compare that to the Wilks clip where he doesn’t even want to look if he can turn - straight back to where it came.

Interesting stuff but surely this is an easy fix for Shota??

Now that I watch these types of things back the movement off the ball from other players clearly show that players like Cannon are not executing what is desired. Our goal came from a forward fizzed in pass from McLoughlin nicely controlled by Tufan under pressure which sets Cannon into space for him to run. Really was that simple but the centre halves didn’t do it anywhere near enough nor did Cannon do what he did before the goal enough.

I understand KLP was on around £4k pw. Final offer to stay was around £12k. Brentford paying him near enough 3x that, and with staged increases and a lengthy contract. Life-changing, made for life no matter what happens on the field ( so long as he isn't totally stupid off it). Nobody could sensibly blame him for leaving his home town club for that.
Greaves is unlikely to be offered more than we offered KLP. He''ll have seen what KLP has secured and what our incomings are getting. Simple as.
I'd like him to stay but not the end of the world if he goes. Needs resolving quickly now.

Exactly. That's why I commented last night that Cannon worked hard, wanted the ball, but had little quality or effect. Covil, Cannon and Wilks should all have been subbed early 2nd half (if winning was the aim, which I'm sure it was).

It's obviously frustrating about Greaves but it certainly doesn't mean that he's off to Boro.

We've got enough time until January to get the contract sorted. I would rather us pay him, but I don't know what the situation is. A few months ago it looked like Salah would be leaving Liverpool after he turned down a few contracts, then all of a sudden he signed
