My point is, should the question even be asked this early on? This is a new team, in a new era. It’s going to be far from perfect and it’s actually going pretty well. I was fearing we’d lose the first 4/5 games before the season.
Anybody who felt we going to go from where we were last season to near perfection post one transfer window and with a relatively new coach, is bordering on delusion. Hang on in there, we usually have to supporting City! Then again with the pace (or lack of) of last nights performance, we are not so much hanging on in there, but just sitting there, no handles needed!
Harsh on Wilks, his first touch isn't always shockingly poor, sometimes it's nonexistent as the ball skates under his foot and into touch. He did that about three times last night. Passing out from the back three has been a problem for a long time. The worst culprit is often Alfie Jones, which is why I'm glad Shota doesn't seem to see him as a DM. Almost all Jones' passes go back to another CH or out to Coyle. He won't pass forward unless there's a huge gap between the opposing players, threading passes through narrow gaps seems beyond his confidence. None of our centre backs are great passers but both Greaves and McLoughlin are much more willing to thread a pass forward. Oppositions have learnt that if they put a line of players in front of our back three then they can easily cut off the supply to the midfield. Our midfield end up coming back deep and usually getting the ball and just returning it to another centre back. It was the same problem under McCann, and it probably needs new players before it will change.
It was a poor show last night and I do wonder whether Shota is the best man to get these players working in unison, athough I am happy to be proven wrong. Its early doors and for my first 'live' game in 3 years I rather missed the feeling of disappointment that you only get when you are in the stands. When its on TV or via web updates you can call them all w@nkers and turn it off. Being there is an investment of hope and dedication which can't be compared, and despite the defeat, you want more, living in hope for the euphoria of a win!
Just had the stomach to listen to that, hardly inspiring when he is asked what do you think went wrong and replies I don't know. Just doesn't fill me with confidence tbh, let's hope he proves me wrong but as it stands now I'm not convinced.
I don't think he was doing either. I think Shota was just frustrated, disappointed, upset and was off-loading, most probably in Turkish, to Allayhar. Allayhar's body language and nodding didn't suggest Shota was arguing with or blaming him. Not sure why though, as the **** show was largely of Shota's making imo.
A very likeable man, I just can’t get out of my head that he has a look of Mr Bean, and waffles on like Mr Bean, not making sense, I just wonder how he gets his thoughts across to the players. He needs to get a grip, and just play a system to the strengths of the players he’s got available to him. Just chucking as many attacking players on together as he can and expecting them to work it out is never a good idea. Unless he can fathom this out, I fear another long hard day at the office Saturday for our defenders/keeper. That said, positives; individually he has some good calibre players to work with, 2 league games in, 4 points on the board, more than I really expected so far. Last but not least, he is easy on the eye.
Atleast hes honest and didnt give a generic response, the players all seem to like him not sure if he has good tactical skills though. Time will show.
