Listening to BoJo's final PMQ time, and really had to laugh at those ridiculous 'nodding donkeys' either side of him every time he speaks. Of course, the same would apply to the opposition benches, but not quite so idiotic-looking as BoJo's two current bench warmers. But then I'm biased!
My post was just something that amused me. Didn't expect such a hate-filled response, from a 'staff member' moderator too. Oh well, to each his/her own. Got to be more careful in what I post on this 'Discuss Anything Else' section. The same would apply to my efforts lately in the 'Daily Racing Thread' too, I guess. Ah well, that's life
the tories are very much hated by large sections of society swanny , the poster was directing that at them .......
I get that to a degree. I’d say I don’t trust many but the current Tory mob are just hateful. My local MP, a non entity Tory who couldn’t even get a decent job in government when Bojo had nobody else to pick, has got a ruck of lucrative ‘second’ jobs. One of these is £50k a year, 12 hour a month consultancy with a Yank energy firm. Can be relied upon to give a monkeys about his constituents amid the energy crisis (not). This contemptuous ****er will doubtless get a 5 figure majority at the next election. Working people in Shropshire are the very embodiment of turkeys voting for Christmas.
Point taken, Rudey, although British born and bred, guess living in Germany and elsewhere all these years I am out-of-touch. Politicians are none too popular in Germany too. The only one I really listen to is Lauterbach, the highly-qualified health minister. However, instead of being grateful he took-on the job, there are thousands of idiots who castigate him at every opportunity, even to the point of threatening him. What a scheiss world we live in at present.
pompeymeowth spends most of its time on the General Chat forum being castigated for being unable to define a woman, despite the leader of the Official Raving Loony Party going out of its way to provide a definition. I use the pronoun “its” here to avoid starting a virtue signalling gender identity row here. The “worst PM we've ever had” got elected as opposed to the lifetime loser offered as the alternative so it could have been worse.
While applauding the mixing in of the Para-games with the Commonwealth Games I must admit I did get a bit annoyed before the Games really started. On the Thursday of the Opening Ceremony there was nothing to really watch on the TV, so I thought I'd make do with watching that ceremony. I turned on the BBC only to find they had rescheduled a Party Political Broadcast on behalf of the Woke Party. The BBC must really tone this tendency down, they did seem to over the duration of the Games. However yesterday, knitting guru Tom Daley was given his slot. He apparently believes homophobia is the fault of the Empire. Hasn't Daley got an MBE?
The overused (often wrongly) word of the moment is unprecedented. Surely everything can't be unprecedented? However it follows on from literally, which people use when they mean effectively or virtually or even actually: hardly ever literally (Mackenzie Crook rubbished the use of the word in the Detectorists when he joked 'Sandi Toksvig has literally filled the shoes of Stephen Fry, they've said but I bet she didn't). So what were we to make of Sam Quek's 'This gold medal winning performance by Tom Daley is literally a fairy story'.
Just booked a couple of weeks in September in Aix-en-Provence. My first time in that part of the world but my wife had many happy family holidays there in her childhood. Really looking forward to it. If anyone knows the area well and has any tips (especially restaurants) they will be gratefully received.
Not restaurants but one of the places you must go to is the Pont du Gard. I'm sure you would have done so anyway. The Arena at Nimes is also worth seeing. Built 3o years or so after the Coliseum, but in better nick. Hope they're not too far.
Like Bustino’s suggestion of visiting Nimes, I believe the amphitheatre at Arles is also worth seeing. If you want a preview, watch De Niro’s film, Ronin, in which he chases the baddie, Skarsgard, down the steps of the arena. A good film, too; one of De Niro’s best.
Certainly some good tips given so far by members who know the area much better than I. It is a huge area of France and seems to cover the whole of the south of the country! If you have the time would certainly have a quick visit to Avignon, also worthwhile. Have a great time!
