To be honest they should just play on it. We played on an embarrasment of a pitch at times last year, so not sure why they are moving it. I don't know of any league mandates on pitch quality so just crack on I say. We were a cracking passing team but never tried to swap venues, to our detriment, and that is what Cov are doing here...
TBH mate, I don't think our pitch was ever this bad. It's an absolute disgrace and I wouldn't want us playing there ... ... imagine if we lost to a weird bobble. And this situation was totally predictable.
Fair enough mate. I havent seen it up close. I just remember thinking ours was a mess. I am not defending Cov, I actually think they should have to play at their ground, or forfeit. But I take your point about losing to a bobble, or maybe even a bad injury. I make you right. I would hate to think we lost to a bobble, or a beachball
I THINK that the Field of Play is supposed to be fit to play on and SAFE for the players to do this. Normaly The Ref decides on this on the morning of the game. If in doubt, during cold or particularly wet times, the Club will get a local Referee in to decide. If he calls the pitch unsafe and unfit to play on, then opposition players and Fans will, hopefully, be saved from a pointless, (in every sense, ) journey. I'm not going to be the only one here that remembers school games on some very odd grounds, not to mention games in The Park. I don't remember any injuries from the state of the ground though. A clip off me Mam for the state of my shirt, covered in mud, yes. But no proper injuries.
I thought the same initially but theirs really looks dangerous to play on for a professional sportsman. Away teams would refuse to play anyway, not with the risk to their players.
That’s the point though mate, it’s their responsibility to play the scheduled games on a safe pitch. It’s no excuse that the pitch was used for rugger darling, they’re supposed to be a Professional football club. This isn’t a dig by the way.
Aye, I like how they say it’s out of their control but they have an agreement surely about the state of the pitch etc and there will be a minimum requirement for championship pitch standards that’s not being met. The weather and hosepipe ban is going to make it worse so it will be interesting to see if the FA step in.
Shameful. Absolutely deplorable behaviour by Coventry. Again, they are trying to bully Wasps. They should be docked six points for the two games lost, compensation awarded to the opposition, and on a final warning. They have an inflated sense of their position in their relationship with Wasps, assuming that they are in some way the equal, or even the larger part of it. They are not. They are homeless nomads, scrambling around for somewhere to play, while at the same time having no means or genuine intention of getting their own ground. At the same time, for a few years they have spent plenty on players, gaining an unfair competitive advantage over those clubs who have cut their cloth correctly They are a phantom club, and would be missed by very few were they to dissappear.
But the Wasps players are also proffessional sportsmen. A big difference between the two codes is that one requires a surface where a round ball will travel true on the surface. The other plays with an oval ball which is only occasionaly played on the surface and where the bounce of the ball is all down to luck, whatever the surface is like. Trying to play 'Soccer' on such an uneven surface leaves much to chance.
Coventry must be a massive pain in the arse for the FA. It's a bit that problem person at work that can't do full duties and are constantly on at the union. A mention of their name and there's an automatic eye roll.
Yeah. The Brian Clough injury is a prime example of what can happen through playing on an unsafe pitch. The ref was supposed to have inspected the pitch. Water on top of ice? Don’t know how he could declare it safe.
Even if the state of the pitch is not in their remit, they should still be docked points. It's their fault that they have had to resort to being tenants of a rugby team. The teams whose early season has been disrupted should chase compensation.
Not true. Stockport County were promoted this summer but their ground is owned by Stockport Council. You only get denied promotion if the ground isn't up to EFL standards.
