Must have been gazing into your eyes, but of course he did get a chorus of ‘we want you to stay’ (bit needy, but a good outcome nevertheless) He certainly was enjoying himself, and milking the applause, when he came over to N Stand at the end Great news he’s signed
Must admit it's been kept extremely quiet, it was a name mentioned in passing weeks and weeks ago but nobody really took any notice as arsenal where adamant he was in the first team picture
Greaves committing long term is outstanding news. Best bit of business this Summer, without doubt. Strange after having so many years of lots to complain about under the Allams. There’s absolutely nothing to complain about. The club is in good hands and every day is like Christmas at the moment. Fantastic.
We're now in a really strong position contract wise. Elder, Emmanuel, Scott and Wilks expire at the end of the year and can see them all being moved on. Coyle, Docherty, Jones, Smith and Williams also expire but we have an option on them. I'd argue all key members of the squad have long term deals and should allow us to focus on a couple key position next summer. I think we should target extending Jones next and maybe even Elder/Coyle if they keep form up.
For where we're aiming to be next year, auto's, top 6 minimum im guessing? We need better than Elder & Coyle... unless the plan is to have them as backup.. but then where does that leave Fleming?
Alfie Jones is contracted until the end of the season with an option, there's no rush on him but yeah I'd get him in for talks at some stage. Callum Jones will probably be released. Coyle you'd think with him being captain we'd offer him something, but then we let Smallwood go so not sure. He's well liked by everybody at the club, be strange if he wasn't offered something. Elder, yeah he's looking like he'll earn himself something. The others, not sure. They'd have to come up with something spectacular to win over the management. Doc probably most likely, but even then, would you play him ahead of any of the current lot? And if not, could we pick up a better player at the end of the season to replace him? Probably.
I think Coyles leadership is vital, as seen by the Tufan stuff earlier. Ideally he'd be backup, but he's good to have in the squad.
