Donny have just snapped up El Hadji Diouf on a three month contract. Enough time to cover sending Billy Sharp out on loan until the transfer window then....
Who could have predicted that? He must have taken a significant drop in salary, either that or Doncaster are completely off their heads!
it would make sense this deal.... Nige is the one who had him banging in the goals at scunny, prompting Sheff Utd to splash £2m on him, apparantley one of the main reasons he didnt come in the summer was his loyalty to O'Driscoll- that factor is gone, plus it is plain to see where Donny will probably end up this year, so i think he may well be keener to move this time. plus for us we get to loan him and make sure he is the right signing before purchase, perfect sense. we did that with Guly and it is a great way to take advantage of the loan window IMO. also sharp is speedy and a good goal poacher, if he can bang in that many at Donny then with better service i think he could do it for us too. i know there are reports of him not in the squad saturday due to "personal reasons" but how coincedental would that be????
To be fair though, the fact that he didn't feature for Doncaster due to personal reasons could well be what is fueling these tabloid stories. Think about it, they could easily be sat in their offices saying: 'The top striker for a club bottom of the league is not playing for a non-injury reason - let's link him with a transfer to the side that's currently top of the league.' It's an easy story to write and one that will generate interest as we've seen just in this thread.
I take it you haven't seen this - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...gent-Willie-McKay-doing-Doncaster-Rovers.html
Damn, that's crazy. I was wondering where Donny were getting their money. I like them though, they play some nice football.
thats possibly one of the most interesting things iv read in ages!! really interested to see what happens with that. as we all know a team of stars doesnt make a star team, but if it at least keeps Donny in the black and in the same league then who can complain?
No idea this was going on! What a unique method of running a football club! Be interesting to see if it works for them.
While sharp would be a good addition to the squad what i feel we really need is a striker with pace. That is why i feel we should peruse Nicky Maynard instead of Billy Sharp as he possesses genuine pace. He is also at a struggling Bristol City side who aren't going to be promoted this season. Therefore he maybe interested in signing for us as we have a better chance of promotion.
Clarification on why Sharp missed Doncaster's game on Saturday (genuinely personal reasons): http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/doncaster/latest_tragedy_for_billy_sharp_1_3927232 Thoughts go out to player and family. Good on the Donny players for rallying round. Lat
Bloody hell. Respect and sympathy to the guy. I'm afraid Mr Shankly there are some things more important than footy.
Well done to Billy, great goal.....nice touch with the message on his shirt when he scored...my thoughts are with him and his family at this sad time....
