And sorry bit you can't drop Alese
We would have all taken a point before the game (if the last two games hadn't happened)

Alese was immense today imo, Patto made a couple of brilliant saves, Neil was involved and the subs gave us energy

I dont agree mate, I think Clarke and Alese link up great considering Alese has only just started playing with Clarke compared to Cirkin who linked up with him from last season. Their understanding will keep getting better aswell game by game. Clarke slipped it into Alese lovely in the first half for him to have a good shot on goal for example.
Alese offers us more physicality at the back, and he rarely loses a header into the box.

Dont get me wrong I love Cirkin, but Alese is more well rounded imo.

I agree in open play but from their corners/free kicks he won nearly everything, especially second half.

You could see why they don't concede a lot. But they were bloody awful to watch, countless pull backs and fouls on players getting away. Only one punished in the end with a card. They were like an old Stoke team, playing for set pieces and hassling the ref, ( it worked!)

I though we moved the ball well at times and just failed to get the right final ball in. Probably the first time we really looked like we missed a centre forward.

All in all, still a great start IMO.

Not had chance to see any of it today. Look forward to a watch tomorrow though.

Really enjoyed reading this thread. Bit surprised Evans went off, was he injured do we know? He has been the big cog this season. Ba sounds a good un, which is exciting. How did Diallo get on, I am a bit reluctant with him at the minute.

Over the moon to hear Alese played well. Comvinced him and Cirkin will be superb together.

    Thanks everyone for the updates.

No injury to Evans as far as I could tell. More of a tactical sub tbh. Ba looked very confident for someone so young in front of a big crowd, not afraid to carry the ball and try to make things happen.

Apparently one of their lads got his 2 front teeth knocked out, an incident that completely passed by tbh <laugh>. It was only when I got home and spoke to someone who watched it on TV that they said it happened.

    just don't expect a 'classic'.

many have said that you can see how they do not score/concede many.

the lad got one tooth knocked out, he 'smiled' for the physio (when he was eventually waved on) and you could see the one gap, then they all looked for his tooth.

have to say the more i see of these young lads the more i am liking them, none have shown any fear, eager to get on the ball and only pass backwards if stuck, always looking to break and get the ball forwards...of course it is still 'early days' but if they can be allowed to develop a bit more understanding of each others game and stop overhitting crosses and passes (it will happen as they settle i think) we could see some amazing football for a young squad.

not a lot said about onien today but he was again solid at the back, gooch looks to be learning his 'new' position now and not racing up the field all the time, another good game from him i thought...but anyway, have a watch and let us know what you think, it might look a different game now the score is known. ;)

One thing that I noticed today was the level of support from Preston's fans above us . . . . there were about 3,000 of them there and they were embarrassingly quite, and they had the nerve to sing 'shall we sing a song for you' at one point after being totally quiet for the previous 15-20 minutes <doh>

I can understand them being bored if they watch that team every week, mind, but I'd be embarrassed if I was one of them and made that little noise :emoticon-0108-speec

Onien was excellent today as you say. Alese was my motm, he was superb at the back and got himself up front during open play a couple of times. Cirkin has been superb but he has a job on his hands to get back in. Wonder if Mowbray goes to a back 4, but then it would probably be onien who misses out which would he incredibly harsh. Good problems to have though.

Kind of agree, but O’Nien is playing well. What message does dropping him send? “Play well, prove a lot of people wrong, get dropped cos another player is now fit”?

And then where does that leave Ballard who is also too good to leave out.
Mowbray has a tough but very fortunate dilemma to choose from.

    I agree mate.

He's been overshadowed by other newcomers but, what a player ...

... this is like a dream tbh, all these actual football players in red&white.

I hear you, and we would miss his aerial ability but it's a results business and you have to pick your best players. I'm never comfortable with O'Nien playing CB as part of a back 4

It will be interesting to see how the season plays out for our young players. We have just had a 2 week break, we have the break for the world cup, no pizza trophy and we are already out of the league cup. In theory putting all that together the 'burn out' that Alex Neil came into last January shouldn't be there and we should be able to rotate these lads when it suits us rather than when they are blowing out their arses on 60mins because we have flogged them.

The likes of Ba, Benette and Amad have looked impressive so far but they will be a lot better in the second half of the season when they settle in more.
