Happens every time, with every manager. Players become favourites and it doesn't matter what happens, they get picked and ultimately it will be the end of Southgate. TAA and to a lesser extent Dier have been poor, but the three names you've mentioned have been utterly absent. But I'm delighted for Wilson that he got on the plane. And I'm delighted for Isak, because Wilson will 100% get injured so Isak will get a load of game time.

Why is James Maddison put down as a forward despite the fact that he's clearly a midfield player, He can play RW I know, but usually plays in CAM, RM role.

    Maguire, Philips , Dier & Henderson ??
    An absolute joke
Your telling me we don’t have 4 other players that are currently fitter, better and in form as these jokers????
    Unbelievable Jeff!

I'm fine with Henderson being there. Not having his greatest season but at least getting regular game time.

The other 3 make no sense to me if Southgate is interested in having match fit players on the pitch. And Dier has just been crap this season

Oh, but, but, but he's at a Manchester club so he MUST be great.

Kind of annoyed Rashford is being considered about Ivan Toney really. Rashford has been **** this season. Toney has been arguably better than Wilson, and a better pen taker.

Exactly - same with Maguire etc

How does he justify picking Philips - came on as 89th min sub in 1st game of the season and not played since ....

Disagree here, Rashford has played well the last couple of months with the revival of Man Utd and plays on the left of a 3 as well as up top. No issues with him being in the squad.

He's scored 1 goal in his last 7 games. Maybe it's a bit much to call him ****, but I'd definitely not take him over Ivan Toney.

Toney has definitely been better than Rashford.

Yeah Rashford's ok, he's got his moments. Not as good a centre forward as Wilson. The issue is, when the manager is bringing players on (if Southgate works out how to use the subs board), Wilson will be forgotten.

Personally I think I'd start Wilson ahead of Kane. Just because Kane had to go off in the Spurs league cup match because Conte has run him into the ground. Give Wilson the Iran game to allow Kane extra recovery time

Hardest of the World Cup groups. Only one where all 4 teams are ranked in World top 20.

So is that all the call ups sorted now?
    Kuol - Australia
    Bruno - Brazil
    Trippier, Pope, Wilson - England
    Schar - Switzerland

5 in total - with only Schar, Trippier and Bruno likely to play any huge part in the comp and I can't see Schar or England making it past the 1st knockout round tbh.

I count 6 but your point still stands. I'd say only a couple of players we need to be wary of getting injured (Bruno and Trippier) and I can see Brazil messing it up. I see some of the players in their squad and think they wouldn't get in for England to be honest.

Also find it interesting how little trust the public seem to have in Southgate. We got to the semi-final of the WC and he was lauded generally, we lose on penalties in the final of the Euros and people seem to think he's rubbish. I reckon with the quality of players he's had at his disposal he's done very well, it's rubbish to watch though in fairness.
