I am deeply saddened recently by the obvious lack of ambition being displayed by not only Chairman and manager, but a great number of fans. Eight years after our fall from the Premiership and some of the comments from fans on forums like this one, are increasingly unbelievable. After latest Blackpool fiasco, comments like Its a once off or forget it and move onto the next game are simply unbelievable. Its frowned on by many to even criticize anything about the Leeds setup. Ive spent my entire adult life supporting Leeds and will do so till I die, but by God, I will not be silent or refrain from criticism when its so bloody obvious the garbage we are being sold. So,ill sit back now and wait for the usual comments about how were improving and grayson can do no wrong
Eire, what else can we do. We don't have a rich suger daddy like lesta or Southampton, we have bates, and he is running the club on a shoestring. To make Bates take notice, there needs to be one game that is boycotted by ALL Leeds fan as a show of solidarity
I echo your sentiments Eire, but football is now run solely for the benefit of Sky. They have corrupted the whole structure of football as we used to know it. The England team has gone down the same pan. Looking at most teams today who are sucessful, they are a product of the "Sky" world of football. Playthings for very rich owners. Players who travel all over the world to get here are take their share of the pot. Supporters take the back stage and have to either pay up a fortune at the turnstiles or put some more cash in the Murdoch bank account. Clubs with long traditions in the game have fallen by the way in the pursuit of the treasure at the top table. Leeds chased the dream and paid a heavy price when failing to continue at the top with huge debts. Fans now live on past glories and hope that some rich group comes along and wants to join in the race for glory. We envy clubs who seem to be able to buy who they want, sometimes just as cover. How long will they last ? Some day the lot will come crashing down and clubs will go down with it. Regional football will return and once the bankrupt clubs have started at the bottom again the players will drift off to the richer countries in America and the far east. I think Leeds will slowly but surely build up again but will remember the "debt" that brought us down. As for Bates, he is on the same bandwagon, hoping for rich pickings on the backs of the supporters. Living in the dream of getting to the Premier, (without spending too much) and then cashing in when someone wants to reach for the "sky" again There thats my rant over.
I take the points about the rich sugar daddys and sky of course. Like every other Leeds supporter, i know only too well where it all went pear shaped for us. Why for example, could Newcastle bounce straight back to the Premiership while crippled with debt as big as ours was and equally as big a wage bill. Their owner tried to sell and failed. Difference is they didnt have a fire sale and they got themselves a great Championship manager in Hughton. A manager who I think will also get Birmingham to the Premiership. Grayson has brought us as far as he can. He is limited in his managerial abilities. Anyone who would sign Rachubka needs sacking for that alone. Throwing money at Grayson would be pointless. The entire setup at Leeds at present stinks. A load of fringe players, drawing huge salaries by our standards, not fit for league 1 football. O'brien, Bruce, Rachubka, Paynter all have two things in common, useless and signed by Grayson. Supporting Leeds has been all about highs and lows but the highs are becoming increasingly rare
Absolutely spot on Eire, brilliant post. I've had enough of settling fot second best,if we reach the play offs it will be an achievement blah blah. Fed up with the defence never being sorted, fed up with second rate players like Paynter,O'Dea etc, fed up with the general acceptance of it all. Where's the pride? It's seems we're even accepting a 5-0 home defeat as 'just one of those things.' It's become quite frankly embarrassing.
Perhaps what is needed for us Leeds fans as a whole is a two step, recognition process: Step 1 - Recognize that being mediocre is good enough. Step 2 - Recognize that Ken Bates is not good for Leeds United. Once this happens we can hope for the change that is needed.
Absolutely 100% agree Eire with all your comments. I am not sure what is worse, watching Bates over the last six years turning us into a distinctly average Championship club, or listening to the fans who still come out with the same old drivel, "Bates saved us when no one else was there". BULLSHIT, Bates rigged the administration to make sure he was the only winner. Which big club has ever gone out of business, do Leeds fans seriously believe that without Bates there would be no Leeds United??? What about the fact he has admitted he put no money into the club. He took the debt on knowing he would be able to manipulate the administration process. The atmosphere at ER these days is rubbish, you cannot believe this guy is any good for the club!!
Common denominator between recently promoted clubs Newcastle, QPR and twice promoted Norwich and Southampton, have been outstanding managers. Leeds fans hatred of Warnock blinds them to the fact he has a track record of promotion to the Premiership. Once we recruit a former player, large sections of our fans are satisfied and will settle for any results. While it is a credit to our fans in the way they continued to encourage the team at five down on Wednesday, a fact that earned plaudits in the media, I personally find it almost sad we have sunk this low. I think I enjoyed our time in League 1 better than this ****e at present
There's a unhealthy blind faith & illogical amount of patience being shown by the majority of Leeds fans towards Grayson which I find hard to fathom. It can't be because he played a couple of games for us as a youngster surely? I don't remember Bremner being shown the same amount of tolerance when he was manager & he got us to an FA Cup semi final whilst we were in the second tier before promptly being shown the door. & the excuse of having a limited budget to sort the defence out is wearing a bit thin now. They're mostly competent players when they join us,other managers seem to manage to work things out in a lot less time than Grayson. Sure Bates is not our saviour, never has been, but Grayson's not the answer anymore either. He's had enough time. Even if we sneak a win at Leicester it will just be papering over the cracks I feel. We're Leeds United after all,why should we settle for mediocrity whilst lesser clubs by-pass us. Grayson's time is up.
I think people feel disconnected with the club because of Ken Bates so they desperately cling onto the fact that Grayson is a Leeds fan in order to feel a connection. Grayson actually makes me feel more disconnected from the club than ever, but I'm not in denial. Another reason I think Grayson is so well liked is because people don't like people who are better than they are. Grayson is just like a thick idiot from the kop, so if you're a thick idiot from the kop you're going to be able to identify with him, if Grayson can manage Leeds then so can you.
Wow! Must say I used to luv reading this forum, comments from fellow fans!! however it's becoming increasingly depressin ov late!! Seriously considering havin a clear out of my favorites! Cannot believe sum knee jerk reactions of sum fans ov our gr8 club! Granted we played poorly against Southampton n Blackpool but does that really warrant all the doom n gloom bein thrown about atm!! We're not even halfway thru the season yet! Sat mid table in equal position with the muppets that thought they'd walk the league (also now managerless) and will come back fighting from what admittedly was a poor performance! Think a little perspective n positivity is needed! Even Manure are capable ov been thrashed by a 5 goal deficit n ther supposed to be one of the best teams in England! It's how u dust urself off n bounce back that counts!! Sum negative fans admitting defeat so prematurely in the season n been very vocal about it, is quite frustrating for the others tryin to keep the faith n belief in ther team! Hence the conflicting views!! Hopefully a win tomorrow will help raise spirits amongst the mighty whites elite!!!
If the forum is too depressing for you, perhaps you should focus more on the **** being served up at times by the club rather than those of us who care enough to voice our opinions. I, for one, do not and will never find one point from nine from those last three games acceptable. Add to that, a mauling at the hands of Blackpool, mainly caused by a clown of a goalkeeper signed by the great Larry. He watches him in training every day and it takes him three matches of goofs to figure out hes useless. Give me a break
He's been banned. That comment was the last straw. Scum fans like him aren't welcome to spout such bile on a daily basis.
