Tripps getting the armband and ousting Lascelles was a moment of beauty and glory for Newcastle United. Lascelles was an atrocious Captain and player.
Trippier replaced Manquillo. Clearly a large upgrade but not an area of the team that was previously weak (compared to others). Wood replaced Gayle, without him we'd have been playing with 10 men for the rest of the season and been relegated.
Tripps, his leadership on the pitch was the driving force behind it all and was clearly what we needed.
As someone who lives around the area I've already seen the meltdown when Torres left. People in floods of tears burning tops with his name on: They then did the same when Suarez left And then Coutinho Liverpool fan meltdowns are a bi-annual event. Klopp has done exceptionally well to limit it recently, the guy is a top top manager. Wouldn't trade Howe for him though buddy.
Ooh I vaguely agree with you for once. The pole is obviously a piss take, but the signing of Wood effective relegated Burnley and guaranteed our safety, and also meant we didn't have to play with an out of position ASM as lone striker or have a useless waster like Gayle in the team. ASM could then perform the winger role that he excelled at, meanwhile despite not getting so many goals, Wood provided a physicality and presence up front that we lacked before and that the other attacking players could make use of. Plus Wood did get a few vital goals - the winner against Wolves and a goal against Soton. The right answer is clearly Trippier, but let's not forget he only played a handful of games last season before getting injured and out for the rest of campaign, whereas Wood was playing every game in a run where we turned things around and got the points.
I'd literally forgotten where the buck toothed twatbag was. That takes his record to 1 goal in 50 games in the last 3 seasons. He makes Carroll look like Messi.
When we bought him to fire us to promotion he was worth every penny of the fee, the baffling thing was not selling him in the following year or two when other clubs were sniffing around (Fulham and Leeds) and we'd have got our money back. It was to the detriment of everyone that he stayed, pretty sure we offered at least one more contract to him in that time too. Madness, consistently terrible in the Premiership and that's what he's likely to always be remembered for now.
Tbh even in the championship season, we needed the rest of the team to get the goals, considering he was injured for half of that season! His goals were basically all at the start of that season, then Ritchie, Shelvey, Perez etc got the goals. The more baffling thing is the ****ing contract extention in 2021 that we gave him, another 2 years of £40k per week for being nowhere near the team. If we'd just seen out his contract (original one finished in summer 21), he'd be long gone by now.
View attachment 254276 That was just classic Ashley. I think he thought we would sell him and he would make some money. I can’t believe he is still playing when he can’t score a goal for toffee.
