What's the views on the new ownership structure and the impending transfer window. Do we look to promotion or to be solid and accept a mid table finish is fine. SD looking at a small return, starting with the Beacon of light.
Looking forward to it; Look for promotion but would settle for mid table; Couldn't care less about him.
Club structure looks good and looking forward to transfer window. Ideally keep Stewart until the summer, but if he goes, he goes. We should look for promotion by trying to buy players that might be good enough for the premiere league next year, if we go up through the playoffs (which we might). Easier said than done, but players of the likes of Ballard, say. I thought SD was looking for a big return and that is why he is still hanging on. Don't like seeing him anywhere around Sunderland.
when posters say SD, Its a bit confusing. We have Steve Davison running the operational side of things, then Stewart Donald sitting on the board who we hope is keeping his nose out of things. I'd be happy to see the back of both.
I'll reserve judgement on the transfer model until after the window, impressive in the main up until now, but if we let Stewart go in the window for relative peanuts then I won't be happy tbh. I'm not sure the whole, bring in young talented players in to make a profit a year or two later will work with a big passionate fanbase like ours. Works for teams like Peterborough etc who have a similar model but they're a small club with low expectations.
1. Relaxed. We don't need any signings unless we lose players 2. Consolidate. Promotion this season would lead to a very painful season next year 3. Couldn't give a shiny ****e
Whatever he is doing he will be entitled to do it. But for me, and I imagine most supporters, he will never be welcome. He is a lying chancer and his disgraceful disappearance when the going got sticky, and his selling of anything that wasn't bolted down for any price he could get should never be forgotten. As for transfers, if we get everyone fit we shouldn't be looking for too much. One up front maybe if if we keep Stewart. More about keeping what we've got I'd say.
Firstly, 'how to you make a small fortune start off with a large fortune and buy a football club... ps ask Steve Gibson. Yes it does make sense to aim to manage a club to breakeven. However for this to work and for the club not be sliding down the table/relegation, Imho you need a good squad of at least 22 players, ie cover for every player. All 22 could be picked as starters and the squads wages will reflect those paid for good players in that division. I would contend we do not have 22 + players all good enough to start on typical wages of the division. So yes, buy young improve them and sell on at a profit, but only when you have reached a level or statis that allows you to do so without seriously impairing the squad/results. The Stewart question, stick or twist? Does he really have a contract until the end of 23/24, or is it till the end of this season. The answer to that question governs when we cash in, as it were.
What if we don’t? What if 4 new players come in? Unless you are saying that will definitely happen there are so many possibilities it’s not worth worrying about. If it happens then it will spark serious questions.
Hear what your saying about LND however for the last sixteen games or so we've managed without him and are handily placed for playoffs. Not saying I wouldn't be gutted if he went, which I'm hoping won't be the case but players get injured or move on and the squad has to get on with it, which I think TM is and doing a cracking job of it. Wish it was 1st February tomorrow.
You suggesting that Stuart Donald is trying to sell the beacon of light to line his own pockets? Ridiculous, don't even think the club owns any of it. Think you're on yet another fishing trip.
Hello Bob, From the outside looking in, on the football side I'd say this is the best we've been ran in my lifetime (50 yrs+). Recruitment is light years ahead of what we used to have. As for the commercial side, given the shambolic events over ticketing and club shop, again from my perspective I have seen nothing to suggest that's on the correct path. Some reactionary corrections, no more. Cheers
I have not said that, read it again before you make wrong assumptions. A small amount of work in return for being included in the running of the club that's all I have indicated he will be doing work for and in there, Jesus christ how to turn a post in to an argument.
