The Pertemps Qualifier at Leopardstown (13.10) has had a big impact on the final in recent years and there are 29 entries this year (28 plus 1 reserve). Obviously plenty of plots here and my eye is drawn to Sainte Dona towards the bottom of the handicap. Although she beat very little last time out at Thurles the step up to 3 miles really seemed to bring out the best in her and she won head in chest by 25 lengths. Brian Cooper again takes the ride for his dad and she can go close here off an opening handicap mark of just 118 (she was scratched from the Grade 2 novice hurdle at Limerick Tuesday in preference for this).
Leopardstown 13,10 Maxxum 7/2 13,45 Zanahiyr 5/1 Lads and Coral, 9/2 others Limerick 13,30 Broomfield Hall 3/1 14,40 Maskada 5/1 bet365, 4/1 others Leicester 12,10 Bertie's Wish 12/1 e/w sky four places, three others
213 Catterick, Mr Coldstone 10/1. Interestingly the Pogson yard have sent this one to Catterick and Marajman 13/2 to Leicester. Win win double EW best option.
As someone who had tipped up A Plus Tard for the Betfair back in late November i am interested to see how the the return to Ireland and the 2:20 over in Leopardstown will go for him. On form he is the best horse, and at 6/4 is short enough for a horse who if fully tuned up will take some beating. A quick look at the stats shows that no runner aged 8 or over has won this race since Outlander back in 2016, Bobs Worth back in 2013, but the two horses under that age are the two roughies at 33 & 40/1. Last years winner Galvin is drifting in the market, now 8/1 from this mornings 6/1 leaving it open for Elliotts main rival to APT in Conflated to take the honours. I have APT in a couple of Cheltenham accys, all around the 4-5/1 range, but after the dismal performance at Haydock recently, and subsequent move by the crookies to push APT out to as much as 12/1 in places for the Gold Cup APT backers need him to bounce back and some o hopefully them collect come March... I have taken the 5/2 on Conflated but it is very much with one eye open on my ante post bets for March...!!
One of the other races over at Leopardstown see's 7 runners all meet up once again after Home By The Lee won the Lismullen Hurdle some 45 days ago when beating Bob Olinger, Ashdale Bob, Flooring Porter, Sire Du Berlais, Commander of Fleet & Zanaiyr. So it's a really intriguing race now that they all meet up again in today's Christmas Hurlde. Bob Olinger finished 2 lengths back of Home by the Lee with Ashdale Bob a further 10 lengths back. Flooring Porter, who i have in several ante post bets to retain his Stayers Hurdle crown in March, needs to turn around that 10 lengths defeat so make me breathe easily over my investment to that race in March. A winner of the race back in 2020, runner up to Klassical Dream last year, i am hoping that Flooring Porter has been wound up enough to take this race and keep the dream alive of a 3rd Stayers Hurdle title. At 15/8, we arnt going to be getting rich today, but it will keep me going to March the 16th and the Stayers Hurdle... One who could spring a surprise is Zanahiyr, who had a blow out in that race 45 days ago and at around the 5/1 mark gives Gordon Elliott a chance to upset the others in the race... Should be a great race regardless...
I think Fury Road looks a nice bit of value today at around the 10/1 mark. He won the big novice chase over 3 miles at the meeting last year and the form of his Aintree 2nd looks rock solid. A pleasing seasonal debut (where he dug deep to win over an inadequate trip) will have put him spot in for this.
The first at Catterick lto c/d winner bolsoverbill (9/2) gets a nod at them odds Greatrex has put 10lb claimer Dylan Kitts in the plate , Dylan is 40%at chases and has won at track . So it suprised me that they are not even 2nd fav
Leicester 120 turning gold realy was a good winner at c/d a while back amd goes of the same mark but the long abscents puts me off . The second fav ambasador also comes in after a longer break and has yet to be tested at this distance . So i have opted for fancy foundations 11/2 available and should relish the return to these conditions and the return to this sort of track and hurdles should only help . 7s were on offer earlier to my suprise but this is smaller bet on my behalf
Turning gold went well again after a long break sheehan probrably had nothing to do oh well thats why i went small
Leicester 235 issam at 14 small bet for intrest , looks good from what i have been able to see in conditions . I am more intrested in watching though and heros and milldam could be promising hence interest and early post
