Just to correct one thing the Poppy commemorates all allies killed in world war one and two and now includes all wars. Not just the British......The Poppy was first introduced after the first world war. You may recall that a lot of British free men went and fought in the Spanish civil war. The Spaniards being helped by the Germans to bring Franco to power, which eventually he did. It may be considered perhaps an insult to the Spanish people to wear the Poppy although I would find it hard to believe.......but the decision has been made........They can't stop them wearing the poppy on their tracksuits can they?

From what i know of the Spanish - the ugly chants etc - they are very racist as a nation. could be generalising, but i think not. We will see........

    Totally agree!

The FA should stick two fingers up at Splatter and wear it. Imagine the negative publicity for FIFA if they tried to fine the FA or place any sanctions against the national team for making the stand.

Then again, if those brave souls from the Somme/Dunkirk (not to mention The Falklands/Iraq/Afganistan) etc had the same backbone as the FA, I'd be typing this in German.

Calm down, take a deep breath and stop reading trashy tabloid papers. FIFA have not specifically banned the poppy - they have a long-standing policy of not allowing symbolic marks on national shirts. This applies to all nations. The poppy is being allowed on the training kits, just not on the kit for the actual game.

Could be? In what way could this not be a generalisation?

Exactly, thank you. Too many people just let hate-mongering publications like the Daily Fail etc. make their minds up for them.

Sepp Blatter is an arse. We should just go ahead and wear them anyway and if the referee calls the game off then everyone attending should sue FIFA. It's time we took a stand. The actions of FIFA officials has been beyond contempt for years.

I agree, they are awful and corrupt. There are many reasons to dislike FIFA, but this is not one of them. This is a very small and very meaningless thing and I can't understand why people care.

I don`t often get right behind England in any sporting event, but this FIFA directive banning England from wearing poppies versus Spain is a disgrace. Hopefully common sense will prevail and FIFA will back down - otherwise I hope England defy them.
