It looks like Darlow and Toffolo are going to have buy clauses so to me it suggests we are trying to get them in early and then flip it to permanent in the summer. If true its shrewd way of doing it
Hull City chief Tan Kesler gives update on transfer pursuit of Nottingham Forest's Harry Toffolo - Hull Live (hulldailymail.co.uk)
I do like the shift in recruitment since Rosenior has come in. Not only are we signing players to fit a system and philosophy, we're also going for proven top end championship quality. Whilst it's probably not as exciting as unknown quantities from abroad, if we consistently sign players like Darlow, Toffolo, Connoly, Ebiowei etc... we'll be up there next season.
I think Darlow and Toffolo, if he comes, are pretty exciting signings. I can't think of many domestic players we could realistically sign who would be better
Combine top end proven champ quality with the occasional exotic gem and we will be bang up the business end of the table. Toffolo is a cracking signing, hope we pull it off.
I agree they're exciting in the sense they improve the team and make us more competitive. But players like Tufan/Pelkas were far more exciting for me because they came with a relatively big reputation yet I had no idea how they'd perform.
I don't find unknown players more exciting than proven players. If I know Toffolo will be great then I don't know how that is less exciting than someone I don't know whether they'll be great or ****. I wonder if we might also be trying to sign Toffolo permanently in the summer as he's clearly not going to get a look in at Forest.
Mentioned on the pod yesterday it's encouraging that all our business this window has been domestic talent and not players with a tangential link to Turkey. Promising that Acun seems to be learning what's required in this league. As you say, if we have the occasional foreign gem like Oscar and Pelkas thrown in with proven Championship talent, we should be in a strong position next season.
Even though this window will be 3/4 in with more out at least you can see a sort of strategy evolving. Still expect a lot more movement in summer though.
