She’s just bought a new arena. I helped build a couple of stables before Christmas. We’re in the market for some rubber mats.

If you don't mind me asking, do you know what type of surface it was. Amanda sells arena surfaces in 11 mainland European countries

Definitely a surprise appointment. German media describe him as an "experienced political manager" with a generous dose of pragmatism. That position certainly is a poisoned chalice - sorting out the mess left by, among others, Ursula von der Leyen (German Defence Minister from 2013 - 2019).

Whilst there was a "German-Russian Friendship Group" in the Bundesrat, this was dissolved in April 2022 - see here. I can't find any information on group members - only certain people on Twitter suggesting Pistorius was a member. If it is true the opposition here will have a field day. If it is fake news I guess it will be dismissed as such. Certainly nothing in the media here to back up this claim (and they would be all over it like a cheap coat if it were true. Let's see).

Why does Germany need a Defence Minister given their virtually pacifist stance since WWII? (apologies, I mentioned the War)

When Ursula von der Leyen was Defence Minister, she famously sent German soldiers on manoeuvres with broom handles because they did not have enough actual weapons.

At the moment, as Britain is planning on sending Ukraine some Challenger 2 tanks, Poland are trying to get permission from Germany to send some Leopard II tanks, which are German built. It seems a very strange situation to be having to ask the country that sold you the tanks whether you can deploy them in another country. If I wanted to drive my car in France, I would not ask Škoda first.

:emoticon-0100-smile .............but it would be very diplomatic and friendly if you did ask Škoda first. I mean, why not? <whistle> :bandit:

Only the Germans could come up with a tank that they sell to other countries but that the other countries need to ask their permission to use. I guess that stops them from invading Germany. We know what happened the last time the Germans took tanks to Poland.

These are international regulations which control the export of restricted goods, also to third parties.

Perhaps you can explain to me, but it sounds like these were “regulations” that were put in place after the world war that we should not mention to make sure that our Teutonic cousins could not go on manoeuvres across Europe again. It seems almost like most of Europe is not prepared to accept that they are better than the rest of them.

A mate of mine wanted two singles and a double ante post on Cheltenham.

So I went on my account and placed a single on his first selection. Then I went in to edit it and add the second selection to make the double. There was just one problem: it reduced his bet to the cash out value before adding the second selection. So he lost money before either selection had a chance to run.

I complained to Bet365 and they replied that is how the system works.

This is nonsensical – I make two selections in a couple of minutes and it assumes that I am trying to pull a fast one. Which moron came up with a system where I cannot pick two horses first and then say I want to place a double?

As you might expect, I complained to Ranjiv in India and got a total bullsh*t answer.

In nearly 30 years in IT, I think I could come up with a system that allowed me to pick two horses and put on a double.

Just google “export control of military goods” - it is nothing particular to Germany. These are international regulations controlling the export of military (or “dual use”) equipment from country A to country B. They really have become a cottage industry. A brief example: my (German) company bought some position sensors from a Japanese supplier. A couple of years later we want to send a couple of these sensors to our supplier in Switzerland so they can install them as test instrumentation on a part they will deliver to us. In order to be able to “re-export” these sensors from Germany to Switzerland we need to get the Japanese supplier to fill out a 3 page document. He is willing and able to do so but he made his sale 2 years ago and gets no additional payment for this extra effort. Ultimate jobs worth regulations.

I have a Football betting system that allows all sorts of bets. I have to admit that, for single bets it expects to enter the amount and the team/match. Selecting the one team places a single win for that team. Selecting home team/away team (ie match) places a single draw bet on that match. For multiple bets, it expects the unit stake and select the bet type (eg double, yankee, trixie etc) and this displays a screen to select the teams/matches to be included in the bet. I'm not sure how I would design it to allow entry of X teams/matches and then state the types of bets to place, given the number of teams/matches could be anything from 1 to 5. Mind you I am the only one that inputs the bets, so it doesn't matter. Out of interest, how would you design it?
