it's funny how "we will never get a player" but arsenal have been **** for years but have built a side to top the table
I suspect its a combination of a lot of things that each are just slightly down but combine to make a problem. I think hunger is one, I think age is another, his style is very much about quick reflexes. I think confidence is a factor, ever since he lost ACON hes been off form. I think he's missing Mane drawing players away from him. And I think just like everyone at Liverpool, he's accepted that fact that we lose games now. Each of these things might only drop his ability a tiny bit, but that's the difference between world class and a decent player... Which he is still decent.
Because who will buy a decent player from you who will cost you £350k per week. . Giving him that wage was a massive gamble that didn't pay off. I said at the time, it's a bigger gamble keeping him than selling him.
yeah well... that chance when put through... not good enough. you simply have to hit the target there. as I've said I want 60mins good play not 90 of bang average for half the game today the Brighton cbs were walking out and dropping balls on who they liked. there was a lot of better work but also a lot of the same issues. Robertson taking 3 goes to get the ball 20 yards up the park. thaigo making huge amount of sloppy passes. cbs trying to play out and ending up with back to play ****ing it up. trent never once opening body and playing forward. Brighton did the same as that first game 4 men up with 1 in midfield. there had to be huge space we were really failing to consistently exploit. the few times we did get it up there we were in. nobody wanted to shoot today. thaigo, nunez, gakpo, salah all passed ones that simply has to be hit.
panic. imo that contract was sorted a long time prior (before mane announced, salah said just about as much that he was stsying) they merely formally gave it on July 1 for new financial year. the previous January it was rumoured the club knew his numbers in there's of runs and pace were down.
Not that we should ever keep a player for shirt sales, but since, unlike most clubs, we earn a % for each shirt sold, and Salah is by far the biggest household name in our squad, I'd be curious how much he brings in. I'm sure just a drop in the bucket compared to his salary, but curious nonetheless.
OK, so why isn't it going on the transfers we want and why are we keeping players who just frankly cannot play?
cos we've a full squad.who can't be shifted but as I've outlined on transfer thread many many fine squad slots are about to open up.
Salah's wage is irrelevant in this context - to say he should be able to adapt because he's paid a lot is a non-sequitur. Imo he should be doing better regardless of how much he's paid - but for whatever reason, he's been poor since AFCON. For the record, I was against paying him that wage all along, and said so at the time. As with Brexit, sometimes you can see a bad idea without waiting for it to prove itself one.
If money was a serious motivation then his form was bound to suffer. His next contract is going to be less lucrative whatever he achieves. His hunger has completely disappeared. The paradox is that by nearly doubling his wage the club has more than halved his contribution.
I genuinely believe he has no one to compete with anymore and feels he's top dog who doesn't have to try too hard. When Mane was there he had to prove himself but that's gone and he just looks as if he can't be bothered. At weekend he had a 1 on1 with the keeper that he would have buried in the far corner without even looking but missed by a yard and just turned away as if it didn't matter.
Well that went well, we'd all forgotten about this thread because of the false dawn in the Prem......back to reality,or are people still hanging onto the hope of top 4.
Actually we may soon have more time to focus on the league. Which would give us a great chance of top 4 if we follow up the last 2 wins and 2 clean sheets.
We're not out of Champions.League yet. Still a.sliver of a hope. A year ago I would have had faith. Premier League... 4th is a bit much to ask, unless other teams really do is a favour, but we can qualify for the other European competition, maybe.
C'mon you know you want to post here, tell it how it is.It was a ****e show today and it ain't getting better apart from ,a few false dawn's. I'm 61 years old and I've seen the best years of LFC and I get it you can't win everything all the time, but some of these players should be ashamed of themselves for pulling on that shirt that bears the Liverbird.
