I have a feeling we'll steam roller their smaller and weaker side. Will be an interesting game though, to see how they approach us.
Concerned? Not even slightly. Most of their players are over-rated and they aren't playing well. The international break will help them but even when they did win on Sunday, their fans on their main forum were moaning about some of their players not being up to scratch for this standard of football, even the goalscorer - Ryan Harley. We played them off the park last season and the only reason they finished top of the league was because we started so poorly and had that sh*t time under Wilkins. I predict a riot. On the pitch, with us winning. 3-1/3-0. Poyet's face will be a picture. Can you keep up Brighton?
The one thing he can't do is moan about our budget because Brighton spent more money in the summer than us! interesting isn't it?
Went on the Echo site yesterday morning and casually mentioned Brighton. Went back about ten hours later and found I had started a riot. Their fans must read all local papers purely in order to get offended. I merely pointed out that we were the best team in the South and that Brighton hadn't done as well as I expected. Hardly incendiary stuff you'd have thought.
Brighton can come and play any tactic they want, we have the players and flexibility to deal with however they play against us. The only team so far this season to stifle our passing game were Reading and they run out of steam in the final 20 minutes, due to having to work so hard, allowing us to grab a draw. I have never felt as confident in a Saints team as I do now, if we go a goal down, we always have the ability to equalise and are never completely out of a game.
They may have won a game recently, but they failed to win a lot before that. I'm also not afraid of one game anyway because it will take more than one bad result to derail the bus (if you pardon the mixed metaphor).
Interestingly, after 16 games last season, Brighton were top with 34 points and Saints were 10th with 24 points. This season, we are top with 36 points and Brighton have a game in hand and are 13th with 20 points. There are a few clubs just above Brighton also with games in hand. Suggests to me that (a) they can't keep up, and (b) they never will. I'm not worried.
Poyet has remarked that this season is the reverse of last and if they get a result it will attract a lot of media attention. Can't remember his exact words, but was not inflammatory in any way. Sounded like he intends to come and play, well you know how Saints hate that
Add to that the 12 million we got for selling Chamberlain and we spent a big minus figure. Not sure how much Brighton spent but I'm sure their total dealings would have been a positive amount.
They spent 3.5 million on Mackail smith alone, also a million a piece on I think it's Buckley and Will Hoskins, they have also got a couple of other players in as well so it's definitely more than 5.5 million,We have spent 1.8 million on Fox,700,000 on Cork, dunno what we spent on Steeeveeeeeeeeeeeeee but it's deffo not 3 million so yes they have spent more than us,although i'm sure they won't like to admit it.
