“ spending whatever is needed”. - means those getting paid for the work have an open cheque book to push the cost as high as they like over budget without challenge

HS2 was a pointless idea from the start, it's ludicrous that we are wasting this much just to reduce a few trips by 30 minutes or so. All parties should be looking at scrapping this but it doesn't seem likely.

Just think of what this cash could have gone towards. I believe the table shows additional costs outside of the Phase One budget, like additional civil works and Euston station etc (Which looks to have almost quadrupled in estimated cost).

Frankly sod the N S rail, what is needed is E W, Road and rail. A66 dualled all the way... for one or A69 for two. Quicker rail into Manchester Aitport

Ps I suppose at some point the scotch will get independence, so perhaps the need for the A1 in Northumberland to be dualled falls?

The whole problem with the railways is, they are using the lines Victorians built with very little scope to expand the existing system.
Without an alternative the railways may not survive.

Do you fart silently in a crowded lift then get off at the next floor?

    Rishi Sunak does.

Do you use the last of the toilet roll and not replace it?

    Rishi Sunak does.

What? Doesn’t replace it or does replace it? And why are you in Rishi Sunak’s toilet with him?

Chris Bryant, for some reason, was hosting a radio show over the weekend. A labour supporter rang in angry over the ads. She pointed out that the Labour party had written to Keir Starmer when he was DPP criticising some sentencing guideline changes. Not only were they were horrible she said, but also pointed out they simply opened their own party leader up to scrutiny. Sunak, was a hedge fund manager, at this time. Sir Chris had no answers but did cut her off and asked Sir Keir if he would like to call in to help him out <laugh>

So, it seems Kier Starmer was sat on the sentencing council in 2012 when the guidelines on non-custodial sentences for paedophiles were introduced.

Many a child abuser weren’t prosecuted when he was DPP so this really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

Wonder how many more percentage points this is going to cost the sympathiser…

He's either being very poorly advised or is himself thick as ****.

Proper shoot yourself in the foot moment. Imagine being so desperate to attack you don't even consider the immediate consequences.

It’s incredible really. All they had to do is stay quiet. That’s it. The big majority was guaranteed. I think that’s gone, now. They’ve seen a 20 point lead shrink to between 11 and 14 in the last 10 days depending on which surveys are accurate.

    Massive own goal by Labour.

Meanwhile Rishi is staying quiet while he gets a deal on NI done, French border agreement, reduction in inflation and he’s avoided a recession which was supposed to be happening.

Braverman and her team of solicitors really thought this Rwanda scheme through <doh>

How much has this shambles cost so far, I wonder.

European court considers asylum seeker’s plea over Rwanda deportation order

A senior legal source said: “If the ECHR finds a breach of the European Convention on Human Rights in this case, then that will apply to others. That creates problems for the whole policy. That is potentially significant.”

Cringing seeing Sunak, in Belfast, acting like a sixth former trying to impress the headmaster ...

... please sir, I'm over here!

Especially as he's held in such high regard the president calls him Rashid Sanook <doh>

Apparently the Good Friday agreement can be updated, according to its architect, Tony Blair. I was told repeatedly it was written in stone for all eternity and changing it would definitely restart The Troubles, by its architect, Tony Blair, between June 2016 and December 2019.

Question on tv this morning ''is Brexit to blame for crashing economy -more bad figures this morning'' But last week weren't we told that ''recession avoided, things on the up'' Bank of England seem to change their opinion constantly. Is it worth listening and knowing, we'll get screwed for our cash by the big boys whatever

Rishi Sunak has certainly improved things whilst keeping his head down but some on here are still volatile and going at him regardless. I wonder what it is about him that makes them do that… Probably along the same lines that white Europeans aren’t getting preferential treatment anymore <whistle>
