An absolute unique and brilliant season. Lets create a memory thread, as we had a brilliant SAFC year and a magic world cup. Seems mad to think back on that world cup break, but it makes a unique season to think back on. My unique memory is my day out at west brom. May have had a few too many and talked russian on here. But our away fans are special always. An Argentina world cup win still sits well with me. South America and football are a match made in heaven. Haway, share them memories, footy match related or not.
Nearly giving our lass a heart attack appearing at our conservatory door shouting when Roberts got his second in two mins away at Reading
Going mental when I got a notification from Flashscore saying that Rigg had scored in injury time against Fulham................ then gutted 2 mins later to get another to say it was disallowed
Overall, getting the love back for my team with the football played but, more importantly, them giving it all for the shirt in every game, even if it wasn't going there way. On an individual game level, the away game at Wigan, where I was there with my 3 sons and 3 young grandchildren (who are all season ticket holders as well) - priceless
My main memory this season has been taking my grandson to matches at the SOL. His first game was against Burnley and seeing his face light up when he got first got inside will be a moment that lives with me forever. It was going so well with the first half then turned to **** in the second! He's been to 4 games, seen 22 goals and has yet to see what it's like when we win a game at home although we did have a big moment together when Roberts scored that goal against Watford. But on a personal note, this is the season that I lived and breathed watching Sunderland again after all the crap seasons in the Prem, Championship and League 1, watching this team battle for each other on the pitch, overcome all the injury problems and still play brilliant football fills me with pride and hope for the future. Hopefully we can keep all of these kids for another season and for them to take on all comers
See the pubs and the town busy with red and white everywhere and just feeling the optimism and positivity in the air for me, having the buzz back is brilliant
First season ever going every week with my Dad. He always worked Saturdays when I was a kid, and whilst we don't always get on, it's been great going with him and my son every week. On the football side of things, the sheer majesty of some of the goals we have scored - Clarke at Reading, Clarke at home to Rotherham, any of Amad's worldies....... Never seen a Sunderland team play such attacking, free flowing football. When we get it right, it's a beautiful thing to watch Daft things from the season - laughing at Wigan getting relegated, pretending to be shocked when Warnock did his thing and saved Huddersfield. Laughing at Alex Neil failing at Stoke
Waking up every match day looking forward,for the first time in many years, to going to watch some exciting young players playing brilliant football and scoring goals.
Very much this. It became a chore for a long time. My son and I actually stopped going for a few weeks when Parkinson was manager - it was just horrific to watch
The young lads. Trai Hume. Was doing very well at full back and then forced into centre half for the crucial games at the end of season. Potential to be an excellent defender.
Walking through the shops in sunny South Austalia to have a random stranger come up to me saying "you're lot are playing well". Most over here wouldn't know who Sunderland are
Absolutely loved it. Met some great new friends along the way who I go with away from home regularly again now. Can’t wait for next season.
Agree with this. Hume's improvement in the last 12 months has been unbelievable. If we can keep hold of Cirkin and Ballard (and keep them all fit) then we have the potential to have an excellent back four next season
Noticed a massive change in attitudes since covid. First game back last season v Wigan and people who used to sit in silence next to each other were all shaking hands and slapping backs. Everyone around me talks and jokes and high fives when we score. It's a really nice atmosphere
Cue Wembley a year ago. People who'd never met hugging and embracing each other in sheer delight! That's when it drives home to you what a great club this is,and how proud we all are to be part of it.
Actually having a feeling of content over the thought that when we lost, we might win the next one. For example, a 5-1 defeat at home to Stoke would have resulted in at least a 1 month hangover of terrible results, particularly as we lost our previous 2. Except for Sheff Utd, we remained unbeaten, with some excellent results. Didnt matter how badly we played one game, we were capable of playing superbly the next week. I cant remember having that much confidence in our players and manger in the past.
My expectation at the start of the season was a top 10 was achievable. The disappointment of Neil leaving for Stoke didn't go down well with me. TM, was a safe pair of hands and we made progress under him. After The January window, the team had ended with no striker, quickly ending with no centre backs, but what a 2nd half of the season us fans watched. So many exciting goals and entertaining games which probably was my best season following the lad without winning anything.
