Was Boris Johnson obliged to make an announcement to the media and insist Sunak should disclose everything to the enquiry, of course not ... ... he knows it'll embarrass the current government which may make Sunak's position difficult if not untenable. It's almost as if the current mess the country's in should take a back seat while the Tories play Punch and Judy.
We'd have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those pesky global issues Brexit will be remembered as a “historic economic error”, which damaged the UK economy and has helped to drive inflation higher, according to the former US treasury secretary Larry Summers. The UK has the highest food inflation rate in the industrialised world, according to recent inflation data. The LSE researchers calculated the cost of food in the UK had rocketed by 25% since 2019, but this would have been only 17% without post-Brexit trade restrictions, nearly a third lower.
The outcome of this could set a very dangerous precedent and surely there is no chance the government will win. If they did it means they can essentially just hand over little information in future investigations stating that the requested info is not relevant. Boris has succeeded in putting the focus firmly on the government rather than himself
It does make you wonder who's holding these back. I daresay if there were no civil servants involved they wouldn't have been able to get the messages to the inquiry fast enough. With The Guardian cc'd in.
Much of this thread has been a bit of a laugh and people with different views/parties/sides ... ... but this is serious and dark. I mentioned earlier, in the thread, that the government are disproportionately concerned with themselves and their internal politics to the detriment of normal government business ... us! It's just endless infighting with a few soundbites and slogans thrown down like corn for us pigeons to peck at. Sort out the strikes, the boats, the inflation, Brexit, the NHS, the economy, the crime rate, the lack of doctors and dentists ffs ... ... work together and stop spending all this time, money and effort on enquiries and solicitors. This is f**king madness, the country is in a mess!
When government seeks to infringe on our personal freedoms they always come out with the line "If you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to worry about". Does this not apply to government also?
Very disturbing. I am no Boris supporter, but it is hard to imagine it is him they are trying to protect. Personally I would be surprised if it is Sunak either. Hancock is already done. It is a really troubling development all round. I only hope they lose this legal battle. The more the resisitance to sharing, the more we have a right to know.
Spot on and add in the removal of the right to protest, the kick against a human rights act everyone but the most vile signs up to, the attempt to dominate media coverage and blatantly lie in campaigns with no remorse, I t’s even darker. Drifting towards a dictatorial manipulative control of their ‘subjects’. Scary stuff. People just want to get **** sorted out health wise and have enough money to feel safe and make positive choices, their kids happy and safe. Not a fan of Starmer or the one before him - I think perspectives really need to change towards people and wealth - but goal number one has to be kick these grim reapers as far out as possible and have hope.
The crazy thing is it’s the enquiry that have requested the information, not the public. Are the government worried about leaks from the people working on the enquiry? There are pretty simple ways to stop that with regards to data protection, controlled access etc. It just makes you wonder what shady unrelated messages the cabinet are really worried about. I have a sneaky feeling that this will go to court, they will lose and something will come out which leads to the final nail in the coffin for the government. This could backfire massively on the cabinet.
well said sir. there has been a lot of suffering along and down this 'rabbit hole' for the public, those MP's might catch the odd spelk but it wont hurt them in the long term while many thousands of the public will never fully recover or will need to suffer a while longer. i try to keep away from such discussions but since the 80's the govt. just keeps avoiding the real issues while arranging a few million bonus' for family business. my sons and thier mates laugh when i talk the 70's but we could do worse than to return to parts of the era, when people were not afraid of hard work and getting hacky during a good shift...if you got sick you just went to the next factory and changed jobs.
The last nail in this govt was Truss in my opinion mate. Maybe even before that with partygate, although I have never seen a tory so catastrophically reck the economy so quickly. There is no return from that. I wonder if it really is govt ministers who are being protected here as if it is then it is entirely unprecedented. I dont see Sunak as a Johnson who would be so blind to public opinion. I have a sense something more might be behind this move, and the cabinet office seem to be behind the wheel on this one. I have no idea what that means really, but it seems odd if this is about one or two politicians.
Im starting to think it’s written in the constitution that 90% of American presidents need to be old, at least moderately insane and have a high centre of gravity.
Dan Bloom on Twitter has found a list of whose WhatsApp messages have been requested. It's 50/50 ministers and civil servants. The ministers' attitudes, we know all about anyway - stuff was leaked throughout COVID. So who are they, they being the cabinet office that's run by Simon Case who's on that list, protecting?
And some people wonder why he's a laughing stock ... ... an absolute joke of a PM, shame he ever found his way out of that fridge.
https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/c...mpaign=Early Edition: 2 June?ico=in-line_link It's almost as if stuff is linked together and reducing politics to binary answers is a really stupid thing to do.
