Ward-Prowse would probably cost around the same, or maybe even a little less, than McTomminay would be likely to.

Less possibly given the relegation. He will want away aswell.

Seems more of a sensible purchase.

I was just going to say MGW - I'd have him ahead of JWP and Johnson!

Don’t all three play in different positions?

Ward-Prowse would be a fine addition to the squad, but not the 11 imo. So for the money he will likely cost (around £30m?) that might be a bit much.

Then again, we just spent £7m for a teenager who's played 17 games in Denmark.

JWP would probably play the deeper of the three, but I wouldn't say any of them are an out and out DM, JWP moved forward into a CAM role from CM late in the season for Soton, MGW is a CAM, Johnson probably more WAM then CAM but Id suggest all are between the DM's and CF's

Hi, Saints fan here, you would be my preferred destination for JWP and I have a lot of respect for Eddie as a manager (we should've got him in when he was on his long sabbatical).
What you would be getting is a versatile player whose set-pieces can change a match. He is a bit of a safe passer, but his crosses can be brilliant (how's Matty Targett doing btw?). He can play anywhere on the right RB,RWB,RM,RW plus CDM, CM, CAM. He plays better with a tough tackler beside him in the middle and he is a decent finisher with a knack of getting into the box at the right time.
Whether he is a CL standard starter is up for debate but he would to be better with more quality around him.
Good luck on your european tour, we had a great time at the San Siro in 2016...<cheers>

All good shouts though - JWP give us a bit more in the middle of the park in terms of a box to box midfielder who can play progressive passes and set pieces, MGW probably would be worked back into a Joe Willock "8" mould instead of playing off the striker and Johnson would be good cover for the wings/CF

Problem with MGW is that Forest bought him for £40m. They would not sell cheaply. He had a successful season and was improving a lot. I would expect them to want more than £60m

Thanks mate, I hope your boys bounce straight back up. I've always liked how Southampmton try to play the game and you have a decent set of fans too. Also like how you've produced good young talent through the ranks (although if anything, it's been more recently where the club seems to have focused more on buying foreign players).

JWP would be a great signing for us, I'd be very happy with that. Although I guess he has options with a few clubs likely to be looking at him.

Any others you would suggest as good for us for both PL & CL?

That's way too much for him, in my opinion anyway. Decent, but not a £50m-£60m kind of player - unless you are Chelsea and pay that for your third choice player in each position. I like Johnson though, great competition for Miggy's role.

He's only interested in London, which means, if he leaves us this summer, he'll waste his career at Arsenal learning how to fall over and fake being unconscious.

Of course it’s too much but it’sa but like asking us to sell Botman to Manchester City for less than what we paid for him despite having a good season

Yeah, that's why I mean we shouldn't bother looking at MGW if that's his price tag, it's over inflated because Forest already overpaid for him - and then he had a fairly decent season.

By the way, how can Forest be within FFP if we are tight?

Just somehow spend 90 million on JWP and Maddison and we are sorted:

The options that would give us in terms of formation & tactics would be fantastic.
Not to mention the options from dead ball situations. Maybe then the next priority would be a centre back who can head the ball (at goal).

Thanks and good luck on a quick return.

Fadge sends his love to Libby.

If that doesn’t make much sense then just ask Libby I’m sure he will remember Fadge even if Fadge was busy chatting someone else up at the time.

Cheers, we have good intentioned owners that have made a few mistakes with the players and managers aquired. They are changing the staff from top to bottom right now and time will tell whether it will come good but we have an excellent crop of young players that just need a few older heads to lead them.
Of our squad I would seriously be looking at Lavia and Walker-Peters as they are both class and will surely leave us this summer.
