To be fair, only 14 clubs have ever averaged over 40,000 and they are one of them. They have the 10th highest home crowd of any club.Amazingly Bolton are 11th with over 69,000, over 8,000 more than Liverpool. Anyone who went to the old Burnden Park must be the same as me and wonder how the hell?
I used to work with an FC fan who insisted the attendance at Odsal beat any football match in England including the first Cup Final but have never seen evidence of it.
I think the Rangers v Celtic league game in 1939 holds the record attendance for a league match in the U.K at 118,567? Non-interesting trivia to some but of some significance to me as my paternal Grandmothers Brother(Tom Mckillop) played in it for Rangers.
I think that probably is the highest for a league game, the highest for any English club game wasn't a league game, it was in the FA Cup - Bolton Wanderers v West Ham United (Old Wembley Stadium) 126,047.
Highest league crowd was Chelsea 82,905. Record crowd for a club ground was a Man City FA Cup game 84,569.
Team’s record attendances are the ones set at their own stadium, or like Man Utd, at a borrowed league ground after the war. Which is why our record is 55,019 and not over 80,000. Same for other clubs which have been in play offs. Though the play offs aren’t league games as they are not part of the regular season.
Loads of England fans in Hope St pubs(behind Central Station)...Heavy police presence too, getting louder but hopefully nothing starts.

Wembley regularly had well over 100,000 for cup finals . There was an estimated of up to 146,000for the Everton v Man Utd final in the 80,s
