Brilliant news, but as much as I welcome him back, it seems a bit crazy that a club like ours is having to rely on the month to month loan of a teenager. Our two 'exciting' signings in the summer, Smalley and Pitman have turned out to be damp squids. Trouble is that it seems because we push the boat out with wages, if a player does not come up to scratch we cannot move them on as few clubs in the division would offer those wages. That's another story though, today's news certainly makes saturday's trip round the 25 more encouraging.

I don’t think Wilder (within reason) is being limited to who he can sign/bring in, and think we have a fairly good budget for this league.

A proven goal scorer is always going to cost more but our strategy seems to be twilight players or a gamble strategy that Oxford will be the club the player can finally shine at. We haven’t bought a decent striker in the past 3 seasons! The players we’ve brought in have often been below par of the existing squad, with the exception of Hall is anyone really challenging Beano as top striker?

    Past and present strikers
Matt Green great pace, needed better man management to improve his work effort
Midson was a proven goal maker, AFC can’t believe their luck!
Craddock.. has been out injured this season but again work ethic is lacking
Smalley the less said the better

The only good news is that Potter continues to improve just hope he gets to put a few away soon!

Cracking news. The boy is fantastic at taking chances and creating something out of nothing. If we managed to keep him until the end of the season(unlikely I know), then surely that boosts our chances of getting out of this league. As for the signing Smalley, i think Wilder may have got this one wrong. Last season he did very well in a Chesterfield team that also did very well. But he was also playing in a front two alongside Davies, who in all honestly had a storming season. I think we need to get ourselves an out and out finisher, other than Robbie Hall we havent got one. Work rate is not an issue if the guy is scoring week in and week out. Bring back Billy hamilton and John Aldridge I say!.

    COYY.
