Both I'd say, plus another example of the "lesser" Nations being light-years behind the top Nations. Had Australia not been so monumentally crap, the last 8 pretty much picked themselves.
Georgia making a decent argument for playing more tier 1 sides.... look far better than Italy did last night....
Tough ask for Romania this evening.... their last wins were against Spain, Holland and Poland..... Scotland already 21 points to the good after 20 minutes....
3 yellow cards for Romania in first half.... Scotland 42-0 at ht.... this is another total mismatch unfortunately....
The Rugby WC is spread over a huge number of weeks, with some uncompetitive matches. Surely they could cut the number of matches down and avoid whitewashes by operating a bye system for the top nations duly ranked
You’re going to have some dross as the game grows just as Germany beat Saudi 8-0 20 years ago and now they’re beating Argentina and generally competing well. If they insist on trying to grow a game the vast majority of the world don’t really care about there’s no perfect format. Could do six groups of four with sixteen going through. Twelve via the groups and the four best third-placed teams to make the last 16. It wouldn’t cut down the length of the tournament but the groups would be interesting and competitive and each group would be shorter with the dross having a chance of making a playoff with one win.
True but it tarnishes the competition imo and drags it out - people turn off it for a while. WC football competition, nations are weeded out and then the rest play games condensed into a shorter period, maintaining excitment and vibrancy
