There is an element of monkey see monkey do with kids so for that reason I'd agree with age restrictions on violent or sexually explicit material. That can be video games, films or magazines, there is an age limit for a reason. I don't think that watching Rambo turns us all into survivalist nutjobs if taken singularly but if you are surrounded or choose to surround yourself with no other stimulation other than hard core porn, martial arts films, 18 rated war games and gangsta rap music it isn't such a stretch of the immagination to see how you might be more un-hinged than the rest of us. I sometimes have to venture into the homes of social housing tenants and during once had to visit a resident who was on the anti-social behaviour list. For the whole of the duration of my visit he had porn at high volume on his very large flat screen TV. He was clearly mental and I had to wonder what came first (the plumber or the nun - no seriously) him being a scotch egg short of a buffet or exposure to filth. Dominating the room was a large poster of Bruce Lee. Sort of along the same lines is another example. My youngest is only 3 and likes Peppa Pig, Bob the Builder and Fireman Sam. He has never seen Power Rangers but we went round to my mates the other week and his 5 year old who loves Power Rangers got my boy dressed up the outfit and even kitted him out with a large foam sword which the pair then proceeded to bash each other about the head with. Since then my boy has used anything he can get his hands on as a weapon and frequently bashes his sister around the head with sticks, rolled up newspapers and the like. He's not violent normally and has only demonstrated this trait since being exposed to an external influence. Monkey saw and monkey did. For that reason I don't have a problem with restricting children viewing certain films or games. I want my kids to remain as far away from that sort of thing for as long as possible, I like the idea that they can be children for as long as they can without the pressure to act all grown up too early.
I've had my difference with Joker (who hasn't ?) - but I have to say that he is correct. <nowgoingofftobesick>
censorship is very very flawed i agree. personally i think its there to keep people happy. if a majority wanted something censored then yup its done if a majority dont cant then nothing happens. than people complain about it when it too late. cant really achieve fair or obvious censorship without core settings. (censorship for types of things are all different.
It's flattering that you want to be more like me - but please don't try to imitate me again. Trouble is, you're a pseudo-terrorist who likes to beat on his wife - you are so far removed from being anything like me it's difficult to fathom.
