I just watched the sky sports foootball first coverage and i have to say

Hats off Danny Guthrie, i never thought he would be good enough to command a place but he's been absolutely excellent in possession recently and has me thinking that if we were playing a weaker team than chelsea id be tempted to stick with him over tiote,

never thought my opinion of him would be anywhere near that

well done danny guthrie for proving a lot of people wrong

    i salute you!

    completely agree.

Would definately not be dropping Guthrie any time soon. He's been a stand out performer IMO.
With Guti out I can see him being played wide right. This does not bode well...

yea he's a completely different player on the wing.... and i dont mean that in a good way lol

id almost go as far as saying he's becoming cabayeesque on the ball

If Tiote is back, and with Guti out, I would play 3 across the middle, a 4-5-1/4-3-3 deal, with Benny out on the left.
But as apparently Tiote might still be out we won't have that problem.

Personally I'd say until Guthrie is directly at fault for a defeat Tiote can sit on the bench, because he's been fantastic since he came in (and I was always his biggest critic, so that's how much he's impressed)

Be a bit harsh to drop him after the work he's been putting in. As long as he can put in performances like he has, he should be kept in the team.

Tiote is a more threatening presence and overall better player, but I can't agree with the OP more.

I went to watch the Newcastle Chelsea game with a mate, Guthrie started as Barton was injured and I said "that's it, we're ****ed, Guthrie is ****e" ... He was ... This season, I genuinely have no issue whatsoever with him starting and have not once felt we lack anything with him in there!

I actually thought the lad was better than Cabaye yesterday!
Really happy with how our midfield is looking tbh!

Agreed Guthrie has played out of his skin but if Tiote is fit then Tiote has to play he is just so much better than anyone in the premier at what he does.

Cabaye was better yesterday, for the first time in about four games though. Thing that annoys me about Guthrie is all the Hollywood passes he tries, he played about three diagonal balls over the top to Obertan and only one found its mark. I'd prefer he cut out the low percentage plays, it's not what we're about now. His play in the build up to our first goal against Everton was fantastic, he should play like that more often.

I kind of want Tiote back in for Chelsea though, we lack his presence. Harsh on Guthrie but I'd probably drop him instead of Cabaye.

Considering Gutierrez is out, I'd go with HBA on the wing against Chelsea and Tiote, Cabaye and Guthrie in the middle. If it doesn't work then we could stick HBA up front and Guthrie on the wing <whistle>

Yesterday he was very good, especially in his defensive duties. Was great at screening passes into Rooney. However, on my stream Guthrie and Cabaye looked very similar. Only noticed who was who from replays and the number on their shirts! But still, they worked well together yesterday.
