65.6% against 34.4% and nothing to show for it,i know the circumstances were very difficult today, but it was the same old story, and as good as Scott Sinclair is for us he really does need to be less selfish with the ball, a couple of passes today instead of trying to walk it into the net or trying to beat all the villa defenders might have created a goal..and with Paulo Souza in mind we really do look like the Portuguese sides from the last couple of World cups and European championships.Very good to watch but a bit toothless...its a bit worrying for me
Have to agree, very rare I think about swapping channels, Lita should have buried his chance but I think he did slip up. But as mentioned I think after the sad news of Gary Speed, must have been very hard for the players to motivate themselves. Wanted a win but will settle for a draw, Villa are not a bad side.
I tend to agree, but listening to the tribute played by Howard Wilkinson today, he praised Gary Speed as the ultimate professional......there was talk of perhaps postponing the game. Wilkinson who knew Speed probably far better than any of us said that having the game postponed was the last thing that he would have wanted. A lot was made by the commentators and pundits today about Swanseas "neat possession football" and the old cliche "they lack a cutting edge".........well if it was said once it was said a dozen times, I tend to disagree Swansea have players who will score goals IF they are given the chance; do Swansea need to be more direct? Their neat and tidy possession football is nice to watch, but how effective is it, in after all what is a results business. I'm not suggesting that they abandon their footballing ethos and go for route one, but perhaps try and break more quickly, and perhaps instead of making 5 or 6 passes try and get forward with 2 or 3. I lost count of the times today when the Swans had chance to push forward, well they wanted to make that "extra" pass.........it gave the Villa defenders time to get back into position........and by the time the Swans were in the danger area the Villa back four had had plenty of time to get back in position, often with a couple of midfielders getting into position in front of the back four, very difficult to break down, especially against PL defenders..........it takes the "flash of genius" that is all to rarely seen to score in those circumstances. I know Swansea's game is based on possession football, but you don't have to hang on to the ball forever FFS..........you have more clean sheets than anyone else in the PL so it's not as if you are poor and leaking goals at the back.........if you take a few more chances (without being silly) and try to be a bit more direct, instead of trying to score "the perfect team goal" every time, well you might find you have a bit more success in front of goal.........you won't go down IMO (too good for that), but let your attacking players find themselves 2 on 3 or whatever, give them a chance instead of finding themselves up against packed defences that have had time to position themselves. You are not a bad side, don't be frightened of sometimes losing the ball, you will always get it back.........and it could result in a few more goals for you..............a 3 - 2 win has to be better than a 0 - 0 draw...........I think you will stay up, and perhaps next season be more confident in your own ability......but at the moment, well 0 - 0 always looks to be a good bet where the Swans are concerned. Not a critisism.........just observations
Really poor game, probably one of the worst I have seen the Swans play...But it really doesn't matter. Today was all about Gary Speed. It's awful news, what ever happened.
Although i agree with both statements re the days tragic news and i agree that there are more important things to contemplate , the lack of goals and the failiure to create chances is a worry
With all that has happened today i have to agree who cares. But swans fans amaze me. we have failed to score against man utd, liverpool and Villa. some of you need to get real. drawn against 2 sides that will finish in the top 8. what are all expecting us to score 3 every week. some people are just never going to be happy and cant wait to find something to moan about. in a difficult month we have lost 1 game to the team that are second in the league and drew with a team that drew a home with man city today. Take a good look at yourselves and stop the whinging about one average performance. God i hope we dont lose 2 or 3 on the bounce because some of you will be calling for brendans head.
You think Aston villa are going to finish in the top 8 ?? Must have been watching a different game from me!, while i agree that we were lucky to take a point today i dont agree that Villa are all that, typical clogging average prem team with a sprinkling of real talent. The concern is that we cannot break down teams like Villa while pushing almost 70% posession. Its time to stop thinking its Liverpool,Man utd or Villa they are in the same division as us and deserve minimal respect! Newcastle didnt give any to Man utd yesterday and it got them a point, the mentality thats its Liverpool etc that is coming from the fans transmits to the players, they are nothing special are they (as we proved) we shouldnt be suprised when we gain a point we should be thinking why we never got the win! its that difference in attitude that sometimes we lacked in the past , i feel the players are starting to learn this and now feel they belong at the top table. Villa was a game we should be looking to win,you saw them they wernt the best thing since sliced bread were they?? problem was, neither were we !
this is the strength and depth that brendan is on about that is missing from the squad....... The game should never have took place in the first place as there were players on both sides who would be effected,
Yes, they will probably finish eighth. The top 7 are opening a sizeable gap already, but I would say that Villa are the 'best of the rest' and therefore finish eighth
No offence but who gives a flying fcuk today ? The whole atmosphere was surreal for obvious reasons. I sat there stunned today. Time to think of Gary Speed today and move on to Blackburn next week
I dont see being concerned about a lack of firepower as whinging just a genuine concern and in the new year with possible injuries and suspension i hope and honestly think brendan will fetch some players in and i know he has stated he wants 6 and i know how difficult it is getting the right player for the right price as clubs see us comming with "Pots" of money and up goes the price, an although i'm convinced we will stay up we do need more goals in the team
We are now just 5 points from one of the relegation spots so its not that good coming up to xmas. we are away at blackburn and should we not win (something we have not done all season)then brendan had better get to work and the board must back him 100%. failure to do so then we will have to rely on luck and our chances are slim....
well, if the comments about the players are correct then respect to them, but cant help to think that, based on those posts, the state Shay Given was in, we could have scored a hat full, all we needed was a shot on goal
If the new definition of football is keep ball in your own half, then we are the masters of the game.
