I've just seen that Rooneys ban has been reduced to 2 matches. Even though I want England to do well I'm angry that the FA even appealed in the first place. Rooney commited violent conduct which is an automatic 3 match ban in England so they cannot have thought that the ban was harsh. They only appealed because it was Rooney and there was nothing to lose. The FA hands out 3 match bans for a lot less than what Rooney did like when someone pushes someone in the face. The FA is a f**king disgrace and needs a proper sorting out. Rant over.
Not to mention one of previous captains getting caught on camera committing assault, only for it to be whitewashed, our current captain being selected despite being embroiled in a race row, our star centre forward having a ban lifted prior to the Euros despite committing ABH on the field etc etc etc. Mickey Mouse wears an FA watch.
An appeal was always going to happen and UEFA were always going to reduce the ban. They can't afford to have one of the tournement's star players not feature. The likes of Rooney, Ronaldo etc will bring in plenty of interest and money for UEFA.
Their appeal was all arond the % of games missed. FIFA's bans are normally 1 or 2 games, because there aren't many competitive FIFA games. A 3 game ban in a 5 group FIFA competition is a lot harsher than a 3 game ban in a 40+ Premier league season.
I don't really follow. Whether or not you agree with the reduction, UEFA are responsible for it. Was what Rooney did really ABH? I'm sure the Montenegro player will be ok, put it that way.
True, although its UEFA and not FIFA in the Rooney case. I still think the FA have landed themselves in an awkward situation as PL teams will appeal violent conduct charges left right and centre.
It may not have been ABH, but it was violent conduct, and for me that should be a 3 match ban, regardless of whether its in domestic matches or international matches.
Yeah I kind of agree and I was a bit surprised that they reduced it as well. But then we have the argument that Antolin Alcaraz was also banned for three matches for spitting at a Wolves player, which was worse? It's a difficult position for the FA between applying standard bans for everything or judging each incident on it's severity.
For me spitting at someone should be a 6 match ban, as should headbutting (a proper headbutt) and racial abuse. These need to be stamped out, especially racism. A 6 match ban for racism and spitting would sent a clear message they are not tolerated. Although in Terry's case if he is found guilty he needs to be sacked as England captain at the very least and maybe not even play for England again.
I was referring to a certain Alan Shearer qwerty! The FA have one rule for "automatic selections" into the national team and a whole host of others for club sides.
My bad qwerty. It would have been WC France 98 he missed..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ss_7WGYa9nQ
They want him to play so why not try and appeal !?!.........Uefa is a different governing body to the f.a so has different rules, so the f.a. should push for a reduce....no one stops premier league clubs from appealing to the f.a.......they're doing it for the best of our country!!
Not as bad as Macheda's impression of Ronnie Rosenthal, luckily for him the keeper fumbled the follow up into the net or he would have made Youtube history.
