Don't understand why we're going for him , his goal scoring record is abysmal.

Hope Carr knows something we don't..

To be fair, a few people were complaining about Cabaye (as he hadn't scored many)...Ben Arfa doesn't exactly net every other game, but you'd still want him on the pitch wouldn't you! As other have said, a 4,3,3 with Ba, Ben Arfa and Maiga up front COULD (and I use the word could as I don't know that much about him) be amazing!

But Maiga is a striker! Cabaye and Ben Arfa aren't and I'm quite sure Ben Arfa played on the wing in France.

I expect goals from strikers especially if they're playing in the French League (no offence to Ligue 1 fans).

But a 4-3-3 with Maiga - Ba - Ben Arfa does sound very comepelling! Shame Ba and Maiga leaving for the ACoN.

19 goals in 41 games. Just under a goal every 2 games isn't that bad tbh. He must be good if we are willing to spend £6-7million on a player who will miss a lot of game time due to African Cup, Carr and Pardew must have really convinced Ashley just how good he is.

Well I guess that's not too bad , hadn't seen his Sochaux record but read somewhere he got like 15 goals in 88 games for Le Mans and that did scare me a bit. With better service I'm sure he'll goal scoring record will improve.

I trust Carr and Pardew's judgement. They have done a really good job with the signinings that they have made, so if they want him, it is good enough for me.

For Marseille I am pretty sure Ben Arfa played on either the right or left of a 4-3-3 formation.

19 goals in 41 games is a very good strike rate, they say a good striker should be going for 1 in 2 and he's got that pretty much nailed on, they can't all be as mint as Big Demba. It's just whether he can adapt or not, Graeme Carr obviously thinks he can and that's good enough for me at the moment.

Agree, Best has been good so it is a shame.

I think Best can act as first reserve for Ba - e.g when ACON is on he'll be guaranteed to start. Also, jonas, Obertan, sammi can all be trained up as cover for Maiga and Ben Arfa.

He's big, poweful and fast so he's got all the attributes needed for a premier league striker. He's also the right age and Carr must have seen something in him that confirms he's got the balls to play for NUFC.

ffs would you all prefer we signed another Albert Luque.

    From today's Journal:
Alan Pardew will be delighted to see another striker come through the door, but Maïga will be away with Mali for the start of the African Nations Cup in January. Even though Mali’s qualification for the tournament was not assured when United made a breakthrough with Sochaux, he is so well thought of at St James’ Park that the club are prepared to make that concession for a player who possesses the one thing Newcastle crave – pace.

Obviously GC rates him very highly seeing as we were also looking at Luuk de Jong as the alternative and I've heard nothing but good things about him

If we're going on goals for previous clubs, then Moussa Sow only scored 12 in 88 for Rennes, and now he's got 29 in 48 for Lille. If Carr sees something special in the lad then i'm more than happy to get behind him.

Since when was 19 goals in 41 games a terrible goal record? <laugh> Also Wikipedia (not exactly the holy grail of correct information yes yes I know) said he was deployed out on the wing for Le Mans before that where he scored the 15 goals in 88 games.

I think some of us are getting a little too used to Demba ;)

Think Manure were looking at him so he's probably out of our price range by now. With regards Maiga, someone at the club must really think he's good, Carr's been watching him for ages apparently, it's dragged out a while now, if he wasn't up to it we'd have given up and moved on by now I think.
