    – But Not How Wages Will Be Paid

There is more news today on the Danny Simpson contract saga.
It was reported a couple of days ago that Danny had turned down the latest contract offer from Newcastle, which is said to be a four and a half year deal with improved terms on his current contract and will keep him on Tyneside until the summer of 2016.

The Evening Chronicle is reporting that Simpson may be closer to signing the deal than many realize, since he seems to have reached agreement on the actual terms of the deal, at least on the wages part of it.

Apparently he has agreed the terms of the four and a half year deal, but there is a dispute, or what has been called a discrepancy, on how those wages will be paid.

Why are footballers contracts so difficult and take so long - probably because they are getting so much money.

But the news is that Danny Simpson remains keen to reach a final agreement, and certainly when he’s talked about the deal he’s been consistent in saying that he loves life at Newcastle.

This is what a source close to Simpson told the Evening Chronicle:

“He doesn’t want to be anywhere but Newcastle United.” “He has agreed to the terms of the contract, but it is how the salary will be paid that has caused the hesitancy.”

“Danny has a great relationship with the manager and all of the players at Newcastle, and he has a fantastic rapport with the fans too. He is happy in Newcastle.”

Alan Pardew said this morning 'Either he signs a deal here or we bring somebody else in, it's business'.

Doesn't sound too bothered about losing him!

Strange one. I don't think they'll pay you cash in hand to avoid the taxman Danny!

Probably having second thoughts, knowing that nobody else will pay him as much as we do.

Once again it all comes down to money.

I remember this time last year when the media were talking about Nolan's contract extension negotiations, they mentioned that some of his income would depend on the team's league position. Maybe the club are trying to link the players' wages to the team's performance?

I think I'd do that if I was a pro though, insist on being paid in cash. All in order, pay my tax etc, I'd just love to carry a binbag full of cash to my sports car every week.

Maybe he just wants the club to buy his game 30,000 times a week instead of actually putting the money in his bank.

Not particularly, although once he's gone we may appreciate him more (or rejoice that he's gone and we can get an RB who can tackle and cross).

Santon will take the RB slot with Tavernier as back up.

FFS whatver the issue he's not signed and we know Lambi**** won't bend.

We need to keep all are best players and he's one of best defenders . Even if he signs we need someone as good at RB or better. That's what's ****ing required at this level.
