That is a good read, Kish. In fact, a fine series. Enjoy. Bernard will always be a hero to me, but he has sadly gone off the boil with his last two offerings. They weren't rubbish, far from it, but his standards dropped a notch or two with The Fort and Death of Kings. I told him so, and he sort of agreed, but I am confident he will be back to his best next year. I have just finished Shieldwall by Justin Hall. An extremely impressive debut. I urge you to check it out.
I'm sort of suprised that my all time favourite, Jonah Lewie singing 'Stop the Cavalry' has'nt had a mention yet. Apart from that, I always like carols at this time of year, The Pogues is great, and without wishing to offend, that Wham song goes where the sun don't shine! ;-)
Unbelievable - not only did I get my last bit of Christmas shopping done in Cheltenham this morning without getting flattened in the stampede, but I saw two reindeer!! They were in a shopping centre chomping hay and looking a bit bored but they had big antlers with the bits of velvet coming off them. The looks on the kids faces were absolutely priceless - and on the adults as well - I've never seen one and I'd guess by some of the bemused looks and goldfish impressions, neither had a few other people either. Magic. In fact, the only thing more magical today will be another three points. COYR!
I prefer the Andrew Ridley and George Michael version. Next question, everyone's favourite navy song?
Just got back from the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at Tewkesbury Abbey - even for a Godless Heathen such as myself, listening to an ace choir and organist at Christmas in such an impressive setting is a pretty uplifting experience. Mind you, I think it's going to take me the rest of the evening to thaw out, it was like a fridge in there...
Winter Melody - Donna Summer, nice and soulful. Once on the NME's best Christmas songs list. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_tffnQdD9E
I've just done the same at my local church and I'm finally feeling Christmassy at last - might have overdone it on the mulled wine though
