I have supported the tigers since I was a kid, even though my dad was a jock and loved Rangers, my best mates dad used to take us to Fer ark to watch city in the 80's and me and my mates used to go on our own during the 90's. I lived in Hull until age 17 and then joined the RAF, I used to come home on leave and watch city and sometimes bring my mates, one of whom is still a city supporter to this day and he is from Belfast. I was all over the UK, Germany, Canada, Kuwait and Washington DC with the RAF, was a great time, met my Mrs in Kuwait and she is originally from Bangkok. When leaving the RAF, some 22yrs later, I moved back to Hull for a few years (5 to be almost exact), bought a house, did the job thing, but decided that I wanted to move away again. I was lucky that I got to see the Tigers at Wembley and in the Prem and now I live and work in Bangkok (currently on Holiday in Phuket for Christmas) but still refer to Hull as home.

I'm sure you can tell the difference between someone like Febbos, who picked an English team to support, in addition to his local Swedish one(as is quite common in Scandinavia) and some ****er from Hull who decided to support Leeds because they were a couple of leagues above their local team.

First followed the Tigers as a schooboy in the '50s, standing on Bunkers, and continued on and off until uni and a job down south intervened. I am proud to be another survivor of both the cup draw at Chelsea, and the replay at home, and particularly remember the chant of "big mouth Docherty" after Tommy made some derogatory comments. Came back on retirement, and now have had a season ticket with the rest of the family, fully enjoying living the dream again.

Born in Beverley, lived on Orchard Park til I was about 3 then me dad joined the RAF and we became military gyppos for 20 years, at which point I joined up and had another 23 years of being a RAF gyppo, now settled in Cambridgeshire where me witch is from.

My uncle used to taxi players home, via girlfriends, after games in the 60s/70s, my dad worked the turnstiles at Fer Ark. We also lived on the Anlaby road, but obviously I was sorta young and dont remember too much about it.

As someone once asked me while wearing my (still) favorite tiger stripe shirt with the black Needlers teletubby patch on it, "are you from Hull then?", my response was "er...where the hell else would I be from wearing this you twat?". He was a Stoke fan, said he was impressed I supported my local team and not a glory team, and we spent the night getting pissed together!

Other than odd games now, I haven't been back to Hull much, there's no family left there for me now, I use to go to a lot of away games, Scarboro when we stayed up being one of the most memorable, but, I'm Hull through and through regardless of where I am.

I remember a similar thread to this on the late 606. But here goes...

I am, sad to say, the black sheep of the family, being (wife and kids excepted) the only member of the family not born and bred in the fair city of Kingston upon Hull; nor have I ever lived there. (I am the only Rovers supporter in the family as well, despite me Pops playing for both FC and KR as a junior.) However, me Grandad played for City in the 40s and was a scout for them at various times thereafter, so I reckon I've got a realistic claim to be a member of the Tiger Nation. I used to follow City across the country in the 80s and early 90s from my inconvenient base on the Isle of Wight. I can't remember the last time I saw the Tigers at home and have never been to the KC, although I've seen a plaque with me Grandad's name on it at the ground. Now exiled in Eastern Europe, I can only keep up with reports from uncles and me mam when they go to games, from the odd game on the internet and from you informed souls on not606. Keep up the banter guys and galls and keep the faith!

I was born near East Park, moved to Kirkella as a kid, moved to Uddersfield for 7/8 months to start my own business when I was about 18, then moved to London(to get a proper job) in '83, moved back to Beverley in about '91, then moved out west to one of the villages in about '95.

I've posted my story on this board before so forgive me, but there's not much else to do at the moment while listening to the Milwall match on a live stream. I've never been to England (no English blood at all, born and raised in Canada) but I had supported Arsenal for 20+ years only because a friend was a Tottenham fan, so that created a rivalry between us. By the spring of 2008, however, I was thoroughly bored of Wenger's ****ers.

That May I read a story on the 'Net that Hull City were to play Bristol City in the promotion play-off, and read also about the area and its reputation along with the fact that HCAFC had never played at Wembley in its 100+ years as a club. So I said to myself that if Hull won promotion, I would stop being a Gooner and support the Tigers. Deano made a believer of me, and I've been following them ever since. I even have a Roary muffler I wear in winter, which has been commented on by passersby. Also, the "gob" incident at the Emirates only confirmed that my decision to jettison Arsenal in favour of the Tigers was a wise one.

I'd love to visit in 2012, not sure if I can yet. If I do, I'll let you all know.

I was actually born in Hull (Hedon Road Maternity Hospital) but moved to County Durham when I was thirteen and then to Canada when I was 25 and have now lived most of my life here. Initially, I used to watch Hull RFC as we lived on Batcheler St just round the corner from the Boulevard and the scrum half, Tommy Finn (spelling?) lived across the back alley from me. When I was eight, I started playing football at school and have had a love affair with the game ever since. I can remember my first visit to Boothferry Park and standing on Bunkers Hill when I was about ten but for the life of me I cannot remember who we played. Of course for me were the glory years were in the days of Chillo and Waggy and I used to hitch back to Hull for as many games as I could.

I haven't been back to Hull since 1979 but my older brother who came to Canada about eight years before me was in town when Hull Fair was on this year and it brought back many memories when he and I reminisced after his return. Perhaps I should pay a visit next season (might be back in the prem by then too) but for the time being I'll have to make do with the internet and odd game on TV. The last one was v Leicester.

Anyway, keep posting the great messages. I seldom contribute having little worthwhile to say but thoroughly enjoy reading all the posts which make me feel connected.

Junior has never lived in Hull or the East Riding. Born abroad and living down south since we moved back to England. But of course he picked up supporting City from me and despite threats to jump ship near the end of the relegation season he has stuck with it.

Realistically though, did people really start supporting successful teams just because of their position in a league table? Or was it because they saw a team they loved the look of on the telly, were indoctrinated by a father/older brother and perhaps saw a Yorkshire connection? I doubt many people seriously look at who were last year's league champions and go 'right, I'm supporting them' when they're a kid.

My turn to tell my story then:
I was born in Quito, Ecuador and moved to England at the age of 18 for work experience and a gap year. It was a Saturday afternoon and I was sitting in a park near The Willerby Manor Hotel feeling completely alone and bored. Two lads wearing City tops came by and I asked them if there was football going on. They said "yes" a pre-season friendly against Newcastle United, I joined them and fell in love with the ground, the support, the team. We won 1-0 that day I do believe. I waited and then got a season ticket... followed the Tigers to Cardiff, to Barnsley, to West Brom, to Stoke, Semi-final at Watford and the final at Wembley. I lived in Willerby for 1.5 years and since August 2007 have followed the Tigers.

In the village where I live there's one Leeds fan(used to be a season ticket holder, but only goes occasionally now), three Forest fans(all brothers from Nottingham), one Liverpool season ticket holder and four Man United season ticket holders, who go pretty much every game home and away. The Leeds fan was as you mentioned, his Dad used to go and they were the most successful team in Yorkshire when he was a kid, The Forest lads obviously support their local team, the other five just picked the most successful team in the country at the time they were kids.

If they follow their team through their ups and downs, I can't begrudge them the right to support that team. If they flit from most successful team to most successful team, they can go to hell. That's what a true glory supporter is. And let's be honest, if the scum fans spend huge amounts of money to go watch the atmosphereless **** at Old Trafford, they deserve some sort of medal for their perseverance.
