I am not really worried about what ever happens to wayne as he has not really contributed to our season and we have 3 other strikers itching for games. If Rooney is out I am sure Dimi or Hernandez or Owen will score the chances they get. IMHO this may be biased but these games coming rest on Nanis shoulders not waynes.
I duuno, I'd expect Clattenburg to say he saw the incident but didn't realise it was as bad as it was. From his perspective, you can only see Rooney appearing to barge McCarthy, and the use of the elbow isn't clear. Seems like he gave a free kick for the barge, which would technically count as punishing the incident. Same as Gerrard only getting a yellow for elbowing Welbeck even tho if the ref had seen it clearly it would have been red.
Yeah I agree with that. The current system does refs no favours. It will be interesting to see what will happen in the next few days, regarding rooney. The MOTD 10 minute analysis of the incident makes me think that Clattenburg will admit he didn't see the incident and a ban will be forthcoming. Tbh if he is banned, Rooney can have no complaints but the manner that it could potentially come about (a bunch of ex-Liverpool players condemning it) would frustrate me.
I don't see how Clattenburg can say he didn't see it, he gave Wigan a free kick, thus stating "he saw" Rooney commit an offence of some kind. I think he'll say he did, but didn't think it was THAT serious. If the lino had seen it completely, then he'd have called Battenberg over and told him it was a red card. I think Rooney will get away with it, not that i think he should. I want rid.
If he's man enough he'll not appeal, but Fergie may not hold the same view...couldn't believe his comments after the game...there's deflecting the pressure off your players, but that was a joke.
If he does appeal, it will be more to do with delaying his suspension period, in order for him to play an extra game...... Not because he doesn't feel he did anything wrong...
I for one can't believe the furore this has caused, compared to when St Stevie routinely clatters someone who gets in his way. I suppose the BBC and MOTD in particular haven't helped. If I remember correctly, when Gerrard clattered Michael Brown vs Portsmouth, MOTD didn't even show a replay of it. Whereas they devoted a good 5 miutes to decrying Rooney's actions. Not that I'm defending Wayne, he was out of order and deserved a sending off.
It's a bit rich for an Arsenal fan to be criticising a manager/coach for publically ignoring the bad behaviour of his players
We've been talking about this topic since the Wigan game. I can actually imagine Rooney not even remembering the incident.
