This is the match day thread for Today's game, I always post this thread before each game so that you can express your views on the corresponding fixture and can talk between each other during the game,
Please post below comments during the game on how the game is going and the latest score and team news.
Have fun and enjoy the game.
I will update during the game on the latest news in the fixture.
This is open to both Gillingham fans and also the opposition
After the match I will allow you all to create a summary on this thread and I will also provide extra details on the game if they are required or if I want to point anything out. You can talk about what was good about the game and what could have been better. During the game I will update the score and the team sheets as soon as they are available, also at the end I will add the table to this thread as it stands.

I am posting this early so that the Gillingham and stoke fans can communicate across the board before the game and so that this is the home to all the chat for both the Gillingham and Stoke fans.
Both Stoke and Gillingham fans aswell as neutral fans are welcome on this thread so have fun.

Sorry guys, due to problems on the other threads, I need to sort this out and the only way to resolve the issue is to remove all Gills threads from the Stoke boards, which I am just about to do.

Apologies to Hoadie but my name is now spoiling our big day and I cannot let that happen.

    <cheers>

Well done Gills ...gave it a good go but 9,800 gate seems smaller than expected ? Is our capacity shrinking ??

I think there must have been a mistake, there was only a little area where there was no fans that was the away end, below the stoke fans, Our compacity is the same, Think they may not have counted correctly as there was as many seats taken as at the Aston Villa game.

Here is my review I will post a score out of ten then I will give my reason, some may disagree but this is my opinion.

Flitney for me is an 7 out of 10, he done well, kicking ok and organisation ok, did not have to pull off many saves and the goals were not his fault.
Frampton is an 8 as he worked well and organised the team, he was good at commanding the defence
Richards has to be a 6 really, he done well with a few tackles, but it was a hard game for him, he worked good, but he did not make the best decisions at times.
Lawrence is an 8 as he was best at the back for us, worked well and his solo run to past the half way line at about 20 minutes was great, made me laugh.
Jackman is a 9 as he was excellent, worked his heart out and was great for the team to work around, a player on fire and good work to set up Kedwell.
Lee is an 8 as he worked well all day, one of the best in the first half, was in control down the wing, we saw a different side to him today a player who is great down the wing, a surprise to me, great headers, good work.
Whelpdale is a 7, but I am not sure if it should be an 8 as he worked great, passing good and a few good little runs.
Payne is a 9 as he was extremely good, his tackling was as good as a premiership player and he had to be called upon a bit today, good work.
Weston is an 8, some of the passing was great, one very good flick just in the build up to Whelpdales bad miss was great but sadly we did not get a goal from that, I think he looked good in the team today.
Montrose is only a 7 today for me, he was ok, but made a few bad passes and he did not do that well tracking back even though he is suppose to be a defensive midfielder.
Kedwell has to be a 10 but that is the first half, he would have been man of the match if he had not cracked a rib, amazing work, never seen him run that fast, he deserves a lot of credit, I thought he would struggle, but he said to me, this is the biggest game of my life and I will play like my life is on the line, his tracking back was quality and his goal was good, he inspired us in the first half, his best performance for us, he is showing us what he is and that is a great player, now getting goals from open play, I think that overall he was not man of the match as he did get subbed but he would have been, he run his heart out and will feel the pain for a few days.

    Subs
Rooney 65 minute sub, I give a 6 out of ten, few good runs, tried to do something but could not do so, did mess up two times.
Payne 75 minute sub, I have to give him a 6 out of 10, he did not have the time and the skill to do enough once the team is in that position, tried but was too late for him.
Oli 63 minute sub, not a bad performance, I would give him a 7 out of 10, he played ok, putting in effort with 2 good passes and one that caught my eye when he managed to get throw past Whitehead even though he was holding his shirt then he skilled past Delap, passed it to Montrose who wasted it. Overall put a good level of effort today.

I think overall man of the match is Jack Payne in my eyes, the high scores are still there even though we lost as we played well, but Man of the match would have been Kedwell if he had not have cracked a rib, he was a 10 out of 10 in the first half with a performance which was fabulous, but his little time in the second half he was too tired so Jack Payne is man of the match for good defensive work, Jackman was great yet again aswell.

Thank you for your review. As someone who isn't able to watching Gillingham very often, I appreciate a review from you, a fan's perspective. However I was watching Sky Sports News, and the reporter suggested that Flitney could have done better with Stoke's opening goal. Was the reporter being to harsh on him, Hoadie_Boi?
Kedwell must be delighted that he scored against a Premiership team. I just hope he's back sooner, rather than later. We need him. He's having a good first season for us. Thanks again, Hoadie.

If only we had not stopped that ball from going out for a corner and clearing off the line to concede for the throw instead, has soon as it happened everyone around me was saying NO - not a Delap throw!

No one's fault these things happen and it would be the normal thing to do. However, with Rory Delap's throw, a killer and 1-2 just before half-time is a mountain to climb for Hessy's lads. So easy to pass a view from a stand, such a difficult decision as a player.

As with all cup ties...if only

Def mistake by flitney for 1st goal. Soft shot went under his body. We was playing really well at that point.

Yeah that is why I gave Flitney a lower score, The goal was not his fault, but it was one we could avoid, sort of went under him as he dived for it so if he had saved that I think he would be on an 8.

    (Official) attendance 9872
Official capacity 11582. Were there really 1710 empty seats? At the Aldershot game it was announced that the last 200 tickets had become available ( would I be wrong in presuming that these were returned by Stoke ? )
With segregation there might have been about 710 empty seats in the Town end - I couldn't see any other gaps.
Why was the attendance not announced at the game ?- with similar crowds in the Championship years, the attendance was given.
Just how much did the extra policing cost today ? - was it the same as the revenue from about 1000 fans ? - OK if it was I suppose I don't blame you Mr.Scally.

Unlucky lads I only managed to listen to it on the radio and I must admit for the first half hour you had me sweating and fearing the worst. Visions of another Hereford United 2 seasons ago. I really wanted to get to this tie but family commitments meant otherwise. I'd like to thank all the Gills fans that made TP welcome and voiced their support for a man that whatever he did he still steered your club upwards and not downwards so that was good loyal support from you today. It's also pleasing to read a thread where after Stoke have beaten someone it's not full off we are rugby players and the dirtiest side in the English leagues. TP took this game real serious with the side that he put out as to be honest with the exception of Crouch, Etherington, Wilson and Pennant that was mainly our first team squad so again that's either testament to Gillingham as a Footballing side or he wanted to get one over on mr Scally. Last year after Cardiff held us at home I think he only played 4 first team players at their place so make out of that what you will! All the best anyway for the rest of the season and the banter has been interesting on both boards and never got nasty so that shows what 2 good sets of fans both clubs have!

I think Tony Pulis put out a strong side as he has tremendous respect for our club and our supporters and of course our manager. To be honest I was glad Pennant and Etherington did not play as two good wingers would have been very difficult to play against. A good day all round and we played quite well but Stoke deserved to win.

gills played really well in the first half hour with Lawrance and Lee standing out. We scored a good goal and looked the better side until Walters shot which was poor went under Flintly, gave Stoke a luckly break which they capalised especially from the set pieces which we could not cope. All in all a good effort from the boys especially Lawrance, Jackman Lee and J Payne who was brillant in the tackle and we will struggle to keep if we don t go up this season. i am also worried with Kedwell coming off as our other strikers are not good enough. We must bring in at least one before saturday and may have to let Ronney leave so that we can bring in a couple more players starting with Kuffer.
The attendence was a joke, there must of been over 10,000. I do believe that was to pay for extra police, the half time lottery was also lower than normal so i think there may be other forces invovled wink wink.

I think Curtis deserves a mention. He was much improved on saturday, no doubt down to him playing in his preferred position just behind the forwards. Everything good we did in the first half came through him, lets hope Hess chooses the play him there for the rest of the season rather than sticking him out on the right wing.

Also I have to say I think Rooney looked lively when he came on, but it is important to note at that point the game was over and Stoke were cruising.
