    Surprise her by taking her away somewhere nearby & nice for the day and having a meal where you give her a £80-£100ish present (something relating to her favourite pass time).

    Get her tickets to watch Sunderland so she has a good laugh then take her out for a romantic meal.

    Or go along with Skalpel, that's a great idea. <ok>

    My Dad is turning 60, and we're doing this for him, but as its a fairly big landmark for her, it wouldn't be a bad shout for a cheaper present that looks impressive and quite thoughtful...

    Basically, there's loads of websites where you can see every No.1 single on your birthday since the day you were born, find one, and set about downloading the songs...

    Buy a picture frame, some cardboard and pritstick and set about making her a something along the lines of this:

    please log in to view this image

    With each song on a little card/The disk/and a picture of her maybe as a baby or something?

    Anyway, as I said, we're doing that for my Dad's 60th, so its another little thing if you have the time/patience...

    Nah, waste of money.

    Get her something expensive of course, but try and make her something yourself.

    It shows you would put the effort in for her.

    How about making a really nice frame, decorate it yourself, make it nice, and then put a picture of you and her in the frame. She can take it to work with her.

    <ok>

    If you're local, Jesmond Dene House is fantastic, wonderful food, and not terrible value, considering what you get.

    Making something's a good idea, that way you don't have to waste 250 quid on some garishly sentimental trinket.

    JWAG's idea is pretty cool as well, but I could fairly safely say I'd hate every track on it.

    Hmmm, depends what music you like, but I did it myself and found a few tracks I'd not heard in years - more sentimental than anything else but I downloaded a fair few...

    This was No.1 when I was born, reminds me of tottering around the sitting room with my parents listening to it:

    Just had a quick look at mine, there were few decent tracks but none that I'd really want (barring two that I have anyway). There was some stuff like Cher, Wet Wet Wet and Robson and Jerome that spent months at number one and will unfortunately plague the majority of CDs.
