Blackburn manager Steve Kean has revealed only Queens Park Rangers have so far bid for wantaway Rovers defender Chris Samba. Rovers have rejected two offers from Rangers for the centre-back but have not yet received enquiries from either Tottenham or Paris Saint-Germain, who have both been linked with Samba. The 27-year-old this week handed in a transfer request but he is under contract at Ewood Park until 2015 and the club on Tuesday reiterated their stance that he is not for sale. Kean told Sky Sports News: "The statement reads for itself. We want to keep Chris. Obviously we know there's bids out there for him but it's a mark of what we're trying to do that we've refused the bids and that's where we are. "We've only had two bids from one club. There's not been any other clubs in contact. Chris is under contract and we've been in dialogue with Chris yesterday. We want him to stay at the club and that's what we'll be fighting to do." Samba missed last weekend's win over Fulham, which helped Blackburn climb out of the Premier League relegation zone, with illness but should be back in training on Thursday and could feature in Saturday's trip to Everton. Kean, meanwhile, gave short shrift to newspaper reports on Wednesday that, were Samba to leave, his defensive partner Scott Dann would also seek a move away from Rovers. "I've dismissed that totally that there was anything in Scott's contract that said Chris had to stay," Kean said. The Scot has so far been unable to add to his squad this month but moved to reassure fans that the club is working hard to ensure there will be new arrivals. Kean said: "I think it's been quite slow for a number of clubs and we're one of them. We've been very active; myself, the directors, the owners. We've had extensive lists, we've got bids and we're hopeful we can bring new faces in." Rovers could return with a higher bid for Fulham striker Andrew Johnson, and Kean added: "We respect Fulham and we don't want to disclose what level that's at. That's one name but there's another four or five names we're actively trying to pursue." There is expected to be one new face at Blackburn this week, though, with Kean close to naming his new assistant manager following the departure of Paul Clement, who joined Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month. "We had good talks last week with a number of very good candidates and we're very confident we can announce something tomorrow," Kean said. http://www.football365.com/blackburn-rovers/7440521/Kean-Only-QPR-in-for-Samba?
Sounds hopeful, but if he comes to us, it won't be until Blackburn feel they've squeezed the max from us. Perhaps last day of the window
it won't be done until the end of the window when Blackburn have released information about the pressure being put on them by the bank. This is the only way Kean will be able to placate the fans and shift the "blame" onto the Bank and the Venkeys who don't seem to care a monkey's what the fans think of them. Once it is established that Kean wants (and needs) him to stay but that it is "out of his hands" then Samba will leave.
"The Venkeys" sounds like a sisterhood of witches from Greek mythology. Wonder if they sit around the board room and share one eye...
do we really need to pay way way over the top for samba? they want 12mill for a 5 mill player..surely sparky must have a second choice in mind?
I'd be happy to wait until January 31st for him, we've only got one league game before then anyway and seriously doubt he'd be signed before Friday afternoon in any case. Of course, it'd be nice to have him for the scum (he's not cup-tied) but getting him in for the Villa game would be great.
I think he is great in the air but we have have another player lined as well in the event of this blowing out ... we will end up paying over the odds for anyone now
The Premier League Channel only had us and Arsenal as clubs linked with Samba, and they've had that for a week now. Interesting that Kean mentions Dann. Our arch enemy Shaun Custis said that Dann were less than impressed after finding out that Samba had handed in a transfer request. Being offered the chance of forming a partnership with Samba was something that made him sign on deadline day. There might be something in the rumours surrounding Dann with a move away, if Samba leaves don't be shocked to see Dann follow him out the door.
if they've got no money then how is he gonna finance bringing in 4 or 5 without selling!? samba will be off, it's just a question of where.
Seeing as were the only club interested, Id go back with out last offer on the 31st and leave them with an option of selling him to us or letting him stay there on strike paying him 50k a week and not having £6m in the bank. We are in the driving seat, not them.
Well, we could well be focked. Eamon is dead right that Kean will say all the things the fans want to hear until the 31st, which is when the banks pull the plug on their overdraft and Samba, Dann, Hoilett and any other player they can extract a maximum value out of will be sold to the desperate flock of vultures who are waiting for their firesale. Don't be surprised to see Wenger eat his words and swoop on deadline day, especially if the Arses give another defensive masterclass against ManUre...
Samba, Dann, Hoilett, Yakubu. With talent like that you wonder why Blackburn are down near the bottom of the league - which is presumably the fans' gripe
True, but they didn't look that bad when they came to LR - I suspect it's the way Kean's been playing them that has riled the Blackburn fans He's been getting it right recently
